Sometimes things just seem to jump out at you. Your just going along and all at once wham thier it is.

Ok so this morning i'm on my way to work. It's abt 6:10 in the morning and still dark. The dawn is a bit away though the horizion is starting to show that faint tint of blue on the eastern edge. My head lights cut the darkness before me and light the way.

About a mile and a half from my house I see a form on the side of the road ahead of me. The form is low to the ground and has a tawney color to the hide. The lights catch it and the head turns just a bit to see a quick glint of an eye then turns back. As I get closer the rounded haunches show and the large side as the figure disappears into the surrounding brush and weeds.

Now the mind goes threw all sorts of things as ytou decide what you just saw. Think to self..It was a deer! nope a deer would freeze in the lights always as the head lights catch it. It was a dog, nope wrong body shape and size. on and on they go

Now I have seen Black Bears (Both Aadult and Cub). I have seen Deer. I have seen Bobcats. Literaly all types of four leggs.

Yet this one was clearly a mountain lion. The tawney hide, the low center, all of it. Now we know thier is a large cat near us as about two years ago we found its paw prints in the snow and ice on the side of the pond.

So here I am the image of this lion in my mind. I start to wonder is it a sign or something I need to look into. I have some imagery of Bast in my head (One form is that of a lion though Sekmet more so than Bast). With this running threw my head I decide to turn the radio on.

Soons the speaker comes on the somg "Spirit in the Sky" starts blarring out. Now i've had some doubt that Bast was still in my spiritual beliefs and was fading away I guess the story has been turned around on that one. _pounce_

Of course in the back of my mind thier is Artemis saying I gave her this one as the day was rising and night falling._whistle_

sounds like a beautiful experience, although native american deities shouldn't be ruled out, such as The Great Spirit, or perhaps there are Native American deities to whom a cougar is very sacred? Perhaps it's a totem animal especially since I remember you saying how much you love the mountains.

You don't know until you try.....I think we psych ourselves out of meaningful experiences by trying to explain them away with logic, when really we should just appreciate the greater Mystery out there to be had. If Bast was the first thing that popped into your head, then meditate with Her. Print out a picture of a mountain lion, light a candle and call to Her, ask her if She was trying to communicate with you. If not, she may be able to point you towards the true source, such as Sekhmet or Artemis.

I agree. Good advice.

Don't think too much about it, feel more. Go with the flow and see where everything leads you.

Edit: never mind, I thought it was in your minds-eye ;) if you really saw it it was a cougar.
Also, could the cat have been a caracal? They were once found in the Egyptian region.

Just another angle. :)

aluokaloo,

I find I frequently shift into the American mythos. I've always refered to the sky as "father Sky" and earth as "Mother Earth", been doing it so long never really think about it. Might be why I refer to the mountains and such a "Grandfather".

I do get called by the concept of "White Buffalo Calf Woman Ccomes Dancing" but I don't claim to follow it. Sort of hard to explain beyond that.

Nitefalle,

Sekmet has taken many of the facets of Bast. Long ago I tried to get a picture of who was calling me in the day light and always had the concept of Bast being primary but Sekmet and another Panther head goddess holding the day. I know thier is an ancient cat headed goddess that maybe the source for both Sekmet and Bast.

Artemis has been thier forever and ever. It could be a new form for her but she has alwasy appeared in the past to me as a young woman in gown and with a large stag. That is why I could hear her voice but felt it was not her.

Agaliha,

Thanks for the links. That is a cat i'm not familiar with. Though the colors match pretty good so it's something i'll have to think about
