Ok, as you can see in my signature, my little monkey is more then 8 months old now. We started with rice cereal at 4 months, and then oatmeal, and have tried barley, along with some stage 1 veggies. The barley is a big no-no, the two times I tried fruit with him he was very sick (applesauce volcano), and the veggies are touch and go - I still avoid carrots and corn since they seem to cause problems.

Thing is in the playroom I'm on on another forum all the babies his age are taking stage 2 and 3 foods, 1/2 to a whole jar at a time. If I give my little guy more then 1/3 of any stage 1 food at a time he gets gas/upset tummy really bad, leading to a few hours of crying, gas, and a few messed diapers.

Should I take him to the Dr? We've just moved and I'm not looking forward to trying to find another one local since here you keep a "family Dr" and there's a shortage, so I'm not exactly sure I can find a local Dr anyway. The family Dr I started him with is an hour's drive away though.

Am I just worrying too much and have you found that some tummies just can't handle foods as well as others? He was colicky and had terrible problems with gas since the beginning - I had him to the Dr checking for pyloric stenosis and reflux a few times, even BF'ing and formula feeding were hard on him to start. I'm just starting to worry that there's more to it since even now, again, he's so far behind. If I back off the food he's stuck with cereal several times a day. Not so great. And even then, like I said, I think the fruit thing is iffy, not really confident about mixing it with bananas or applesauce.

I would take him to the dr, just to be sure. When Liam was at 8 months old, he was eating one stage 2 jar of fruit and veggie at every meal, but then he eats anything in sight. If you little one is having issues..go and check it out.

You might want to skip the stage 1s altogether. Is he ready for real food like cheerios or corn? It may be something in the processing bothered him, but he might better cope with very simple foods.

I would definitely take him to the doctor. Like someone else said it maybe somethign they're mixing into the baby food, or it could be a sign of a bigger problem. Have you tried making your own baby food instead of feeding him store bought stuff?
Anyways def a trip to the doc is in order...better safe than sorry.

I'm with the others, I would have him checked out. I don't have kids of my own yet, but I know that I was a late bloomer when it came to solid foods myself as a baby. My mom had to BF me until I was 6 months because babyfood just caused me to volcano. She didn't take me to have me checked out, since I eventually seemed to get over it.

I've found out recently that I have IBS and have had it since I was an infant. (Crazy, huh?) My life growing up and up to this point would have been far more comfortable and in some cases much less embarassing to me if I had known I had a real medical condition that could have been controlled by diet instead of just dealing with the discomfort, the gas, the potty trips in the middle of the night 5-6 times. I was always just told that I have a "sensitive stomach."

To be on the safe side, getting him checked for enzymes and digestive conditions more commonly associated with adults might not be a bad idea. Your Dr should be able to guide you best on that though. Good luck finding a new one if you choose to go that route and good luck in general!
