What tricks have you found useful to help keep the baby occupied while you change the diaper?
It seems like an ongoing issue for us especially when he's so prone to rashies and not wanting to stop crawling long enough for bum checks.
Today I realized if I give him a (completely sealed of course) tube of cream he'll gum the tail end of it and stay occupied so I can change him. That works for now. Other things I've done are silly faces, songs, and sounds, and special toys he only plays with up on the table.

I just moved the whole fiasco onto the floor so they wouldnt fall and learned to put on a diaper at lightening speed. And I used cloth with pins!

Y'know, I found it is a little easier if I put him on the table, since he can't get too far too fast. He still gets up on hands and knees and sits on his butt, but at least he doesn't crawl away that way.

I found a mobile or mirror or picture near (but out of reach) worked wonders...and I'd change it to something new once they grew tired of it. It usually gave me 20 seconds or so to get their bum wrapped..LOL

It can be tricky at around his age because they don't want to slow down or stop what they are doing for the moment it takes to change them.
I never used changing tables with my kids at home. I was like Ceres and just did it on the floor. Talking to my kids about everything I was doing helped. I also told them I was going to change them before grabbing them up, so it wasn't an abrupt change in direction for them. And if they were playing with something that could be played with while they were laying on their back, they brought it along too.
There were times that struggling to get it done happened or tears over it. But, if your calm and firmly, but gently, keep their body where it needs to be for that minute or two to get the diaper in place..it doesn't take near as long as they may think..or try to make it.

You have no idea how much fun it is to have to wipe diaper rash cream off his hands, legs, face, my hands, my clothes, the carpet, and his clothes, when I try to change him on the floor, with him wiggling out of my hands then crawling away and leaving clothing in a trail behind him
At least my *mom* got a kick out of it one day when we were visiting her.

we hung a mobile above the changing table and that worked well for Sage. now she's too old and would be able to reach it.

I would play games with them. Like I'd put their feet up to my face and go "Hello?! Hello?!" like it was a telephone and then push their feet towords them (while I was cleaning them) and say "it's for you." Both my sons loved the foot/telephone game. I would also jiggle their feet around and sing James Brown songs while making them "dance."
When all else failed, I'd change them on the floor. I sat down laid them between my legs, and crossed my one leg over their chests and changed them super fast
