Does anyone know why I am feeling drawn towards getting a gold ring as a stand for my crystal ball, and what effect it will have?

gold is the most magical of all metals and is usually associated with solar magic and deities of the sun. Gold enhances any magical workings .

I dont want to steal this thread...but does it make a difference if one uses/wears white versus yellow gold?

Interesting point!

I was actually thinking I would buy 18 carat... until I realised how expensive that would be! Will have to settle for 9 carat I think! lol

EDIT btw Lightdragon thankyou for the response!

first up you are not stealing the thread. White gold is usually made up of gold and another white metal . the highest level of white gold is 17 carat which is made up of palladium and even bits of platinum.

Most gold is mixed with nickel anyway, isn't it? I guess white gold just has a bit more?

Oh, and on a side note for those who are allergic to nickel and can't wear American gold, and Mexican and Italian gold are mixed with copper, so they tend to be more yellowish, leave a green tint, but no allergic reactions.

usually gold with copper added to it gives off a rose color to it and is sometimes called rose gold. White gold is mixed with yellow gold(natural) and nickel or palladium or even silver. karats are 18,12 and 9 .Although this gold is more costly. the gold might coat nickel but the outter layer itself is pure gold. hence the different karats.

also a side note here are various other types of gold:

green gold: gold with silver

purple gold: aka as amethyst gold or violet gold which is 79% gold mixed with aluminium .

blue gold: gold and indium

black gold: although oil is sometimes called black gold. one way it's made is by electro-deposition using black rhodium or ruthenium . and another way is oxidation of gold containing cobalt or chromium . Amorphous carbon is also used some times, with the Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition process.

with the white gold is where people are allergic

A question for you Lightdragon if I may! Or anyone for that matter!

You say Gold is associated with solar magic and sun deities... what then would silver be associated with?

I just bought a silver ring and my malachite ball has taken a shine to it!

Wow... I just realized I have never owned anything gold in my life :weirdsmil. I've always been attracted to natural gold specimens and have looked at several but have never commited to any specimen. Maybe it is time for a small gold collection showing different forms and from different localities.....

I don't have any gold either. I was going to get a natural specimen this year but when I saw even a very small one of pure gold cost upwards of two hundred bucks... I decided this was something I needed to set money aside for. So unless you've got an awful lot of disposable income, Wolfsong, don't expect to have a small gold collection. The stuff is bloody expensive. >.<

I primary use pyrite as a gold substitution. also less expensive.

But I do have a pewter set of King Arthur and Guinevere. The Queen has a 24 ct. gold rose and King Arthur has a gold sword. the queen serves as my water holder and the king serves as the wine offerings.

Ya.. it looks like the going rate for natural gold nuggets is about 30 - 36 dollars a gram. It seems like when they screen nuggets the largest screen size is 4 and the nuggets in that size weigh about a gram each. I think it would be cool to have specimens from different locations in the 2 gram size range with maybe one larger one as a center piece. It would also be cool to have a gold in quartz specimen and also a few examples of crystalized gold... I have a bid in right now on a small gold crystal sample which seems kinda cute but I dont think I'm gonna win it... Here's a look at it...
