My brother keeps hearing things in the back yard stomping in the middle of the night, and he's only heard it recently. He said it sounded like a bear. The first time he heard, it was really early in the morning in a flower bed (containing azeleas, a bird bath, and dead cat is buried there) and it sounded bigger than a dog. He didn't smell anything unusual and he was only a little frightened. He looked outside with a flashlight and saw nothing there and heard nothing more. He didn't hear it running through the grass when it stopped like he would have if it was an animal or a human. He went to sleep really quickly after that. Then the next time was about midnight and it sounded like he thought two kids wading in the creek, and he felt really scared. He listened at the window, and then it sounded like two heavy slow things fighting. I ran into his room and I heard a low whining noise and nothing else. We checked around and didn't see anything. It could be something earthly like a deer, even though deer are rare in this area, but my backyard is prime for faeries. Its really hot here (Georgia). If anyone knows of any faeries that would live in this area, I'd like to hear about it. He keeps getting negative feelings from it, so I'm almost want to do a banishing. There are no tracks that we can see in the day time. Thanks!

The possibility always exists that it's squirrels, rabbits, owls, dogs, etc. Never discount that possibility.

That said, there are several things you might consider - first, that whatever it is is your genus loci, or "spirit of place" that watches over your home. If he she or it is playing tricks, you might leave it a little offering of bread and butter or something like that.

I live in Tennessee, and the area on which my house stands held a native American village over 1000 years ago, and Confederate troops camped here before the very bloody Battle of Franklin. Likewise, there are a lot of little bits of energy left over, and every now and then they visit. Treated with respect, they never do anything but play the occassional joke.
You might want to look at the history of the place you live, and determine if you have some residual energy from past events, or perhaps some native American magic going on.

Georgia, like the Carolinas, southeast VA, and Tennessee was heavily settled early by Scots and Irish immigrants, and they brought the fairy faiths and their folk beliefs with them. Likewise, I also think it's entirely possible that you might have that sort of playful spirit teasing you and your brother.

My advice: leave a little offering out, and do some meditation to see if you can't discover who and what it is. Even you local squirrels will appreciate the gift, and once you have an idea of what you're dealing with, you can learn how to best react with it in future.

In the stories of the Northlands, the Land Wights like porridge, or milk, or honey... I live in Oklahoma; when holding any ritual outdoors, I always begin by scattering some cornmeal to 'feed the spirits' of the land...

Midsummer is the time when the Fae Folk are most active... seems I remember something about people hearing them 'marching'... could be something similar... they're normally harmless to humans if left alone...

This is a bit off the subject, but it made me think of it.

I've heard of the fairies, and heard that they could play jokes on you. One of my good friends always says that the pixies got it, when I can't find something.

One night though, I had a dream about fairies, I can't describe them anymore. I do seem to remember trees though. The main thing was that they said to me, "We got it...We're helping you to fix it."

I asked my girlfriend if she had sent them. She said that she didn't.

I bought a book...It didn't seem to help much. The only thing it did was make me wary of "dealing" with them, or counting on their help.

As, I said I've never given much thought to them except when my friend mentions them. So, I didn't call them, it seems that they came to me. Any ideas as to why?

It could also be raccoons too. They make a heck of a lot of noise & they're not always easy to spot in the middle of the night.

If the Fey Folk are offering you help, better take it... if you insult them, they get REALLY P.O.'d...

heh Rick is right. Better you accept them or they definitely could become naughty :)

That's what's so funny...I haven't heard from them since. I just tried to accept that they were handling it. I just tried to remember the one that spoke and said "Thank you." Mainly, because I know that they can get ornery, to say the least.

Like I said, it was a dream...maybe it was JUST a dream but I felt like it was better to be safe than sorry. My girlfriend (the fairy-friend...lol) agreed.
