So hubby, baby and I went out for a shopping trip yesterday (because we can finally allow ourselves some pampering and spoiling since I can work now and make extra $ each month).

Anyhoo, after a long day of fun shopping and driving around places...

We got home... Hubby went to take a shower and I popped in my NEW Madonna DVD of the Re-Invention tour (her documenatry -- "I want to tell you a secret"... Yes I am A HUGE Madonna fan). I had never seen this DVD before (money issues preventing me from buying it), so I was eager to watch it.

Scarlet hung out with me, and I was feeding her at some point while the movie was on, and she was making cute baby noises and sounds while eating.

I found myself SHUSHing her because I couldn't hear the Madonna DVD...

Here I am, an adult who SHOULD have patience and an understanding of priorities, shushing my 9 week old daughter because she is making baby noises (and is unaware of what keeping it quiet means), and I am shushing her because I can't hear Madonna talking.

Oy...

LOL after 5 minutes of shushing her over and over again, I caught myself in the act of doing it, and I felt so bad... LOL

For the first time in over 2 months one of my important things topped over Scarlet in priority for 5 minutes... I had totally forgotten how before she was born, I had so many other priorities and things to worry about or work on.

That is all out the window now... After 20 years of devotion and loyalty to Madonna, I have to put her on the back burner while my daughter is eating, being changed, and being taken care of.

I have to remember that... LMFAO!

I think Madonna would understand, lol! I too try to shush my 2 yr old, she has wicked timing for being loud right when something important (to me) comes on..... its ok, you are human. don't beat yourself up over it. I'd definately do the same thing if i had gotten something that i had been waiting for, and you know that its the one time the baby is talkative!

Lol, I use a DVR to record my favorite shows. There are times between my daughter and my husband it has literally taken me an hour just to watch the first 15 min of a show. They are both old enough to know better though.

Oh gee...if you're a bad mom for that then I"m a tyrant! After 4 years a kind 'shush' went to 'would you be quiet!' or 'if you're going to be loud do it somewhere else!'. Hehe....Seriously, I tell my son to be quiet at least a dozen times a day so I can hear a tv show.

It's okay to make yourself and your interests a priority every now and again. You haven't lost yourself just because you're a mom now. :)

I found myself doing this with almost 3 year old Caitlyn. She has developed this annoying habit of talking nonstop, that is not a metaphor, she doesn't stop unless she is asleep. I couldn't figure out why I feel so drained from just sitting and watching a cartoon or movie with her. It finally dawned on my ADD mind once it slowed enough for me to get a glimpse of what I was thinking for a few seconds, she was talking nonstop. I began to listen. Everywhere we go, everything we do, she is jabbering away the whole time. It is grating on my nerves. I have tried to shush her, then felt bad. I don't want to dampen her spirit, yet, this girl is driving this Bamma crazy! I get exhausted just from listening to her! It is all real words, and appropriate for what is going on, so it isn't nonsense. For example, watching DORA. She will be watching it, and jabbering away, Dora. Where is Boots? Bamma, where is Boots? Where is Boots, where did boots go? There's Boots. Where is Dora? Yeah, it goes on and on and on and on!!!!! :TThen I catch myself ANSWERING her without even realizing it, I don't know, Caitlyn. He is there somewhere. yep, he is on there somewhere. Yep, there he is. I am doing this almost as automatically as she is talking!
I think this was a good time for me to actually have TWO whole days off, I think I have been around babies waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much.

I don't think Tana stops even then. Shes been talking non stop I think for 4 or 5 years now lol. I've been known in moment of great exasperation to say "Tana, for the love of god, please just shut the hell up" Then she cries, and yells, and gets mad at me cause I'm "not being nice" Lol, seriously though I will be in the bathroom trying to do my business and she will be standing outside the door jabbering away at me. Thank goodness for school and grandma.

From what I've been told they don't shut up until the teen years, and then good luck getting more than 2 words out of them.

It never fails doe sit?? You spend all that time teaching them to talk andeven more time telling them to be quiet!!!! When Heroes comes on ( it is my FAV tv show) I tell Ellie- Mommy & Daddy's fav show is on..you need to be quiet!! Usually she can and then she asks to watch a movie in our room when she can't be quiet!!! Ahh the joys!!
