Since I'm a comic/cartoon entusiast, I love surfing the web for cartoons from my childhood. In the middle of my researches, I found this video of Disney's Pocahontas where in my opinion there is a true pantheist feeling:

oh yeah, you can also see this earthy animist influence in movies like Brother Bear and the Lion King. Disney's great for that!

Thanks for the link to t he video. I hadn't seen it. I probably wouldn't have made the effort, if you hadn't suggested it. My children loved "The Lion King" and it was a fun movie, but I found its imagery rather explicitly christian. Of course, if I go back to my childhood (considerably longer ago than yours!:weirdsmil) I can remember the sourcerer's apprentice.

Why do you say "The Lion King" has a christian imagery? I kinda feel, just like aluokaloo, that it has a great animism influence (the circle of life, the spirits on the stars, etc).
PS - Never seen Brother Bear... guess I'll have to see it :)

also don;t foget Disney's really early flicks, like this one cartoon were trees and flowers were dancing, courting, loving, fighting etc. i believe it was originallydone in black and white, there is also naturally fantasia, like their greek scene and their nutcracker scenes with the fairies, and mushrooms.

Also for non disney movies with that sort of aproach check out balto 2 wof's quest, blatantly native american influences, and a beautiful songs like muru's chant, the grand design, and who are you?.

I always thought that song was animism/pantheismy. =) And I just looked up that flowers and trees clip, it's really cute!
Oh, and I never thought of the Lion King as having a christian imagery, but I haven't seen it for a while, so I'm not sure.

nothing got us talking more about religion with my 4 year old than Brother Bear, especially because the Bear is our family totem.... It was an unexpected jem.

Christian, animist, or somewhere in between, Disney's films are definitely something I would let my grandchild(ren) watch. (I am not yet a grandfather but soon will be - as well as being married for a second time!) I find they are directly relevant to the social climate into which they are released, and are made with loving care whatever they might express. Christianity is just another form of paganism (the European variety especially); Jesus for me as a Jew was a great teacher, healer and rabbi (and is a Muslim pir or saint) so I see these films as expressive of a greater whole that everyone from atheists to the Pope himself would find something in.
I love the new Ratatouille film - Louise used to draw me with sparkly bronze eyes (see the cartoon below) and in the Disney store the other day - we love soft toys as much as the next big children :) you never grow old in politics - we noticed Remy is made with the same colour eyes. He was a bit big to carry home with us - for £30 you don't half get a lot of RAT... - but perhaps next time.
The only thing I dislike about Disney is that they seem to have airbrushed Wol out of the Pooh Bear films and in the Disney store they had everyone else as big as Remy but no Wols above about eight- to ten inches high. We were disappointed in them to say the least.
