My stepson is almost 21 months and every now and again, he will get VERY BAD diaper rash, this most recent case being the worst. We have him every Wednesday to Saturday and it usually doesn't last from one visit to the next, but I just saw a commercial for a new prescription cream called Vusion for this specific type of diaper rash. I checked out the website and it seems to fit the profile....I was just wondering if anyone else had ever encountered this before and actually seen a doctor about it? I feel so awful....his pain is so bad that he starts to cry if you even touch his diaper and I've tried everything. Balmex, Desitin, Doctor Burt's ResQ ointment, vaseline, baby oil, arnica gel - and every combination of the above I could think of. He won't even sit directly on his butt in the bathtub in case the water is too hot on his sensitive tush. Now, it was just this past visit, so I'll check again on Wednesday, but does anyone have any advice? Thanks for reading!!

ETA: He also has eczema (since infancy), so at first I just thought he had super sensitive skin combined with a nasty diaper rash, but the website is making me wonder if I should ask a doctor.

if he has yeast- diaper rash creams- like bordeaus, desitin, etc- dont do a dang thing to fix it.

we use lamasil- you know- the kind you put on your feet.

works great!! i can knock a horrible bleeding booty rash almost overnite with a thick coat of lamasil.

our dr. said it was ok- and for the love of God- i can't handle seeing my babies hurt like that until we get to the dr.

try it!

Thank you!!!!!! I will definitely try it out if he's still suffering on Wednesday.

I use Nystatin, it's a non-prescription OTC cream you have to ask a pharmacist for (because it's behind their counter), which our Dr had us use. There's a thread on "when it's a yeast infection rather then a diaper rash", let me dig up the link for you.

Ah, here's the stuff I dug up about symptoms that suggest yeast - http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=170716

Can't you let his mother know he has a yeast infection and what to use? Wednesday is a long way away.

My son is prone to the yeast infections and it makes him miserable.

I agree! Nystatin works wonders for my 2 yr old. if regular cream doesn't cut it i always coat her in nystatin and it does great. we started it when sage was getting chemo and getting wicked rashes from the chemicals....did wonders!

Thanks everyone for the info and the links. I am having my SO call the mom today with the names of the creams so he doesn't have to suffer anymore.

Great replies so far, one other consideration is kids with sensitive skin often react badly to regular disposable diapers....have you checked out chlorine free disposables? They have less chemical stuff in them, so they irritate tender skin less.

Great, hopefully that will get it all cleared up. I know my son's getting a yeast infection these days when the diaper rash keeps coming back and he starts getting whiny and miserable especially when I change him. So I can imagine how uncomfortable it is for the little guys.
