Ok. So, I wasn't sure where to put this. It seemed most appropriate here and I figure that if it's in the wrong place, the Moderators will give me a nudge in the right direction.

Here goes...

I am something of a night owl and usually don't go to sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning. Last night I went to bed, as usual, after reading and watching The Simpsons. I fell asleep fairly quickly. A couple of hours after falling asleep, I woke myself up by screaming. Although I hadn't dreamed it (or remembered dreaming it) there was an insubstantial hooded figure standing by the bed. I had hurled myself into my boyfriend's arms and he said that I was whimpering. The hooded figure wasn't doing anything (like reaching for me) and although the outlines weren't blurred, it was faint and misty, like pale smoke. Does anyone have any idea who this figure could have been? My boyfriend couldn't see it, even though he was looking for it. It scared the hell out of me, although if I am honest, I didn't necessarily feel any particular malevolence from it. I don't know what to think. Did I actually see something standing next to my bed or am I just imagining things? And if there was something there, what could it have been? Any input would be helpful.

Cheers.

This should be in the dream interpretation section but I am not a mod and do not have these privileges so I'll let them move it for us.

My hunch is that this is your spirit guide trying to make contact with you but I am not sure because of the eerie feel of the dream. Pulling a Magic (or magick ;)) card for clarification, I get Mystic Familiar, a benign and positive card, so I think this is just your initial conscious reaction at seeing something like a spirit that you are unfamiliar with. Ask it to make contact in a non-threatening manner so that it does not put you into such a terrified and terrifying position.

I can tell ya this can be a common bad dream for folks that are new to their studies, and perhaps have yet had time to separate the real from the fiction.

Dreams are after all a great place to process information.

Often dreaming of a hooded person is simply of one who is in some position of power, yet unseen (makes ya wonder in the day light doesn't it) and often the person the hooded one/s are over or near sees themselves as very innocent, new, boring etc

Playing right into the fiction part of how the power can suck you in or be controlling of you.

Any of that ring true for you? In your mundane (as in everday and non magical)
and waking life?

well not information, but I encountered a similar entity a couple years ago when I got up to get my daughter a bottle of water and when I came back into bed, I saw it floating in the doorway and it looked whispy like smoke, and I couldn't see a face. Everytime I looked at it, I felt heavy like nbeing doped up with a tranquilizer, and everytime I looked away I felt the "tranq effects" recede. It forced itself through a shield, and I sort of instinctively repelled it with what my ex-boyfriend called an etheric blast. I would have to say that even if it wasn't malevolent, maybe cleansing and warding your house might at leats make you feel better. I've encountered some creepy spirits in my dreams and nightmares that ended up following me around the house while I was wide awake afterwards.

Thus far the figure has yet to reappear. I did wonder if the figure might have been some kind of guide or messenger. One of my patron goddesses in Morrigan. She is, after all, kind of terrifying and often apppears as a hooded figure. This is all very much food for thought.

By the way, thanks for moving the thread to where it should be.

I've found when they start taking the hoods off the real terror begins.

Holy cow!! When I was 7 or eight, I had my best friend sleep over. We were in my gram's room because it was bigger. We both woke up and saw tall hooded beings in long shaggy brown robes all around the bed. both- We screamed and were hiding behind a rocking chair when my parents came running. I am an adult now- but I remember that night. The weird thing is we both saw them and we didn't feel they would hurt us either- they were just there

I have never told anyone this before.
