Ok, there's only --*calculates*-- 38 days until my 16th birthday (WOOOHOOOO), and I already know that my dad intends to buy me a car for it, which I can't rejoice enough over... but today, he decided that he was going to show me the car he wanted to buy me (just in case I didn't like it, he didn't want to show up and have me go "...bogus, dude..."). So we pull up to the "Lemon Lot" on base and we park next to it... there it is... my future first car...
It's a 1994 Aqua-ish Chrysler(sp?) Lebaron GTC... yep, a convertable! *Much dancing around the ceremonious car fire... wait, not car fire. Gasp! That's my car!*
OooOoOoOoOooo and I'm so excited. Now I'm all determined to go out and get a job so I can pay my insurance like I agreed to... wee... dancie dancie dancie....
Ok, sorry, I just had to brag. It was like, there she was... I just wanted to hug her. *tear* I'm so happy... Hehehe :crylaugh:

So glad your Dad has good taste....I'm so jealous...:D

Sounds like the car I was going to have to drive...
74 Dodge Dart, forest green, pretty good condition ;). All it really needs are:
--New passenger window
--Re-sprung seats
--Hubcaps (someone stole them one by one in the night. :ugh: Really, what can you do when that happens???)
--Fixed air conditioning
--Dent fixed on the fender
--Re-upholstered seats
--The hood won't open unless you use some pliers to yank on this little wire sticking out... that needs to be fixed
--The inside panel on the passenger's side is taken off... we need to put that back on
--New dash
--Could use a paint job...
Hmm... there was one more thing, what was it?
Oh yeah! A running engine!!

heh, i wish i had it like you guys. when i bought my car my parents were like "you think we're paying for something? heh, that's cute..."
SimplyStrange
June 20th, 2002, 08:45 PM
Lmao! Aw, poor Dellit.
The downside to all of this is having to go out and get a jobso I can pay nearly all of what I earn for insurance. I swear it's a trap... for every privelage you get, it just means another responsibility you have to adopt... :ugh: I'm slowly become more and more dependent, and it's scaring me...

My first car was a 1980 mustang.. it was baby blue and it was my baby. I loved that thing.
Then I got a 1986 Chevy Cavalier. It was yellow and it was the exact twin of my best friends car. :)
Then I got a 1993 Olds Cutlass. It's maroon. My x boyfriend wrecked it so it looks kinda bad. It has over 250,000 miles on it. I bought it for 150$ from my x father-in-law. It still runs like a dream though. :)

Lol, that's exactly how I am. It's not an ugly car, just an odd color. Hehe, but that's what makes it unique... plus it's going to be MINE ...in thirty seven days...

OMG! That was my first car! I LOVED that thing. I have all kinds of pictures. My Dad and my Uncle drove it up to my college. I got it as a grad present. I didn't even know they were coming and here they are knocking on my dorm door giggling like little boys. Brought me outside and there it was under the street lamp (it was dark).
It was the BEST car I ever had (not counting my new one now). I drove it all over. Back & forth from school (got it 2 months before I graduated) and down to my then boyfriend's motorcross races (the same guy who's the father of my son).
*sniff. I miss that car* I ended up giving it to my kid brother for one reason or another (new car i'm sure) and HE BLEW THE ENGINE!!! I was so sad...

lol, Starlite! At least yours RAN! That thing was a boat: it was big and heavy and flooded a lot. But oh well, teehee. He has a new car now, it's a 1981 280 ZX.... how's that for cool, eh?

good luck with it simply strange, that seems to be nearly everyone's big memory, "the first car" and yours does sound like a nice one. one thing you'll notice right away, the sudden rush of "new friends" you'll have when you get wheels. all of whom will want to go riding around in your car but will seldom have money to kick in for gas. (funny how the odometer and the gas guage seem to be synchronised, as one goes up the other goes down.) one bit of advice, "nobody drives your car but you", don't let anybody borrow it, even for an "emergency". if someone is driving your car and has an accident your insurance will get charged and your "friend" will just say how "sorry" they are but they won't be paying the repair bill. while you're waiting to be able to drive it get dad to show you how to "trip check" it, oil, coolant, power steering , transmission fluid, tyre pressure, the stuff people that drive for a living check at the start of every day. for "pleasure driving" once a week should be o.k. but it should be done regularly. and don't let anyone tease you into "seeing how fast it will go", it will go fast enough for what you want and, if pushed, faster than you will be safe or comfortable with. (i've got an old police cruiser in the yard, it will go up to almost 140 mph, i'm quite happy cruising at 70/75 mph on the interstate, 50/60 mph or less on local highways depending on the road and conditions. nobody's paying me to do "pursuit driving".) you're young and you and that car have a lot of life and good miles together ahead of you, good luck and drive carefully.

"Hmmm... now what to name it..."
give it a bit of time and it will name itself, my cruiser is "gay deceiver" after the "car" in robert heinlein's book "number of the beast", my chevy blazer is "waltzing matilda" because she carries all my swag, takes us to market to buy our tucker and billy and she's also good for going walkabout in the bush when i get tired of looking at people. "gay deceiver" can't fly like the car in the book but she does just about everything else i ask of her. by the way, my first "car" wasn't a car, it was a '47 harley-davidson "74" "knucklehead", i wish i still had it, me and that bike had a lot of fun together.

Thanks for the advice gunner! Don't worry, I was never going to let anyone drive my car, 'cause if they wreck it, 1 I don't have a car and 2 my insurance and 3 i would be tempted to murder my friend ;) jk. Plus it's MY car! I want to drive it!
And I've already told my dad I want him to teach me how to check everything, and how to change a tire. And anyone who wants to bug me about me driving them fast gets an invitation to walk and a polite "Let's see how fast you can run". In any case, I plan to be very careful with my car, especially because I'LL be paying insurance! I've already discovered the thing has huge blindspots because the back half of the car is black because of the top... but that's something I gotta' learn to deal with. It'll be easier with the top down, and I'll look cooler too! :p
In any case, I've already learned the basic rules, and they're fair enough (and plain ol' common sense as well). No more than two people in the back because there's only two seatbelts... that's rules a given because I wasn't going to even take my car out of park until everyone had their seatbelts on! I'm not going to get blamed for crashing and hurting my friends because they were doofuses... besides, I don't want my friends getting hurt! All in all, I think I'm going to enjoy this. Now I can wake up for school later!

you're welcome to the advice and from your reply it sounds like we've got another good sensible young driver about to hit the open road. congratulations and good luck, i got my daughter through learning to drive and ride a motorcycle back when she was your age and she was my best riding buddy for several years putting a lot of miles and fun on our bikes together.
(the attachment is my daughter and her first bike at age 16, "i got a license, a bike and an attitude".)

Ok the whole leaking when it rains thing was proven to me today... :2G: But it's ok, 'cause we've decided to stash towels in the back seat so we can just wipe off the dripped water when necessary.... It's fine because most of the year it's quite sunny :sunny:
I just gotta' watch out for monsoon season. I don't want to drown in my own dang car!! :D:D:D
