I just spent a half hour on the phone with Torias Drs office. I called because her cough is so bad it is hurting her throat to the point of tears. All she would tell me was that there was no easy fix for a flu. I didnt call to fix the virus I called asking for ways to make the throat better.
Here is what I have done. Cough medicine, Ibuprofin (she has a 102.8 temp), water, OJ, hot chamomile tea, mint tea with honey.
The only thing they suggested that I havent done is a hot shower letting her breathe the steam.
I did not get any sleep last night......please...please help us get some sleep tonight.
How do I make the sore throat a little better???

just because i know you want to drag her out of bed this late and go to the store-
I am a 100% believer in the ricola cough drops- they're herbal and medicinal!
The one i use all the time is honeyLemon with Echinacea.
" Cough suppressant + throat drops- fights coughs naturally soothes sore throats- from switzerland." They're in a hot pink bag. They dont have that awful cough drop taste either- I can get my 2 yr old to eat them- thinks they're candy.
they're like 4$ for 24 drops-
I usually only have to use one or 2 a day.
might try it...

Slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, um, wild cherry bark. I would send you some of mine, but I don't think it would get to you in time to help her!:smileroll The slippery elm tastes like a tangerine popsicle stick, but it does work rather well! I will be keeping those stocked now. My doctor used to recommend gargling with saltwater, but she may not be old enough to do that real well. Ice cubes, if you have or can crush ice cubes. My favorite from the regular store is NICE drops.Sugar free of course.

Lorrie I love you to pieces!!! Im going to get the cough drops in the morning, it is to cold to take her out now.
Are we talking as a tea for these herbs?? Do you have a recipe you can send me? I can pick them up tomorrow.
Something else that is interesting. Toria twice tonight (and possibly last night, Im brain fried) has talked about "The Lady". She cant tell me if she is young or old or where she sees her. But I walked in there and she was kinda laughing saying "The Lady doesnt need all those tissues".
My gutt says she is not one of my great Gandmothers that where there while I was pregnant but I dont know a early middle aged woman that could fit that description.

One thing that helped me when I had bronchitis... I heated up some water, added a large spoonful of honey, and then either squeezed in half a lemon or a tablespoon of rosewater. Both helped quite a bit in terms of the cough and the sore throat...
Hope poor Toria feels better soon! :hugz:

I would stop with the OJ only because it is a bit acidic and it can actually hurt to drink. Non acidic juices like grape, apple are wonderful.
I hope she feels better soon.

The thing that helped the most was the mint tea with honey. And on a positive note the fever didnt last nearly as long last night as the night before. So we did get a couple hours of sleep.
Chesna the OJ I gave her is the acid free type and then watered down. Toria has GERD and the acid in regular OJ tears up her stomach but the Dr said to give it to her and I gave it hours before all of this happened. She had it with lunch just to make sure she got the vitamins but didnt have any when dinner came or later when she was in so much pain.
But at least once she fell asleep for good around midnight she didnt wake up coughing at all. So maybe we are over the hurtle with her. Witch would be good since I now have the same bug LOL

I thank god for our humidifier and vaporizer, along with Vicks vaporub. I used those in combination when my spouse and I got hit hard by a cold that left our throats terribly sore for a few days, and my baby didn't seem to get sick at all. Kind of like a hot shower's steam but longer-lasting.

Hey honey, sorry you two are in such rough shape. You could also try this new thing from Vicks, one is like a tablet that you put on the bottom of the bathtub and when you take a shower, the warmth of the shower "activates" it and then it releases a vapor. Then there is also another new thing from Vicks that is like one of those Glade plug ins, only it too releases the vapors. I haven't tried either one of them, but I do know some that have and they said that these things seemed to help. I hope that the both of you get better soon. Love you to pieces! Sending healing and comforting energy to the both of you. Call me when you feel better. My next day off is Monday and I work 11-8 the rest of the week. That's 8-5 your time.

Im going nuts!!! Victorias fever is much lower, only 101 but the cough and the sore throat are awfull. I even gave her some baby nyquil to let us both sleep and well she is still waking up.
I have the marshmellow and the Slippery Elm but Toria wants nothing to do with cough drops.
I found online I could turn them into a paste to put on her chest, but did not explain the how.
Please tell me how......I need sleep tonight.

Check your PM's, long message, bit if you have some of the stuff on hand there are directions for what to do with it. (I don't know what you have on hand or I could customize it better!) I am about to head to bed for a few hours of sleep between grandkids, I'll give it a few more minutes.

Will she use honey? That may help by itself. Crushed ice cubes work nice too.

This is what my friend suggested to use when I had a sore throat:
1 pinch of sugar
1 teaspoon of honey
1 cup of milk (if its in winter, then you can warm it a little)
Combine the honey and the milk together but don't put the sugar in. Give the sugar to her raw and let her swallow it (it will help break the phlegm up that is in her throat). Then straight away give her the milk and honey combination. This will soothe her throat and allow the sugar to go down.
Now I don't know whether this will work or now but it did for me.
:hugz: Sending healing energies to her!

Aw, sounds like you had a rough night. I hope you eventually got some sleep. It will probably be your last really bad one, if that makes you feel any better.

Sending healing energies for Toria to get better and for you not to get as sick as she's been. And you might want to have her checked for pneumonia, I have a friend here who has been sick and coughing and finally another friend of ours kidnapped her and took to the doctor who diagnosed pneumonia.
