"That's when the thing up there turned to me, and it was in a perched state, and it started to turn," he said. "It started to move its arms and this giant blackness was just coming out. At that point, I dropped the stick and I ran."

Ramirez sketched a drawing of the large, bird-like creature. The image is disturbing, and similar to dozens of sightings across San Antonio and South Texas.

"If you were to take a man's face and pull his chin down, just like a stretched face," said Ramirez.

Perhaps he is hallucinating, but why is it similar to other sightings in the area? :foh:

yep...
it sounds like a 'Thunder Bird' from first nations mythology.

I once knew a fella who had Thunder Bird as a totem.

Seems like a large majority of the witnesses seem to say it's feathered, which would discredit anyone who tired to say it was a Terradon (prehistoric flying lizard).

It definately sounds like a vulture or buzzard of some sort.
Which is probably why they used photos and videos of Black Vultures in the news broadcast.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, :)

I've seen thunderbird and it definately wasn't black, it was a big bright red. although there could be plenty of other colored thunderbirds.

I don't think they say it was black in the accounts,
they just mention huge and feathered over and over again.

the Thunder Bird I came across was dark coloured... his eyes were gold.
Of course that is astrally so it's difficult to say how that would translate to reality.

the accounts are of birds with 14-20 foot wingspans... it's big whatever it is.

Perspective of a bird in the air can be tricky. I once saw a sandhill crane rise up out of the ditch alongside a narrow two-lane highway and it looked like it's wingspan was nearly as wide as the highway, but of course it wasn't really that wide. A combination of shock/surprise and my not being used to guessing the size of a wingspan made it look larger.

And I once saw an owl rise up off the highway in my van's headlights and it looked like the wingspan was as wide as my van, about 6 feet. It may not have been that large, but it sure looked like it in the headlights directly ahead of me.

There are several birds with a wingspan even larger than the sandhill crane's, which is between 5 and 6.5 feet. The albatross has a wingspan about twice that large. Seeing something like that at dusk or in the dark and trying to judge it's size if it's in the air above you (flying or perched on something high) would be very tricky.

definately, that's something that is apparently explained in the book this whole thing seems to be pushing.

do they have any native carrion birds in texas? or maybe reserves or breeding programs for endangered carrion birds? maybe one got loose or something. Vultures and condors do have pretty big wingspans, but not enough to carry people off. I'm thinking it's a vulture or a buzzard and people looove to exaggerate.

really? that's cool. I've never heard of a dark thunderbird. But like I said I've only encountered one.

It might be a spirit he has seen and needs to interpret it somehow.

Things like this are not rare - see the Cryptid discussions - but are usually traceable to people who are just beginning to see spirits and are shocked "on" by their subconscious letting them see one in particular that is spectacular enough to be inexplicable by any other means. For me it is simple to explain without recourse to the idea of drugs or anything potent in the water supply - most hallucinogens tend to augment second sight and spirit-seeing, not cause the specific apparition in the first place.

This reminds me of a creatured dubbed 'The Awful',

http://www.cryptomundo.com/bigfoot-report/the-awful/

These creatures have always facinated me since childhood. The stories I've read remind me a lot of some things I've seen over the years.

great thread and link. thanks.

I think if it were a vulture people would recognize it as so because we have a lot of road kill in Texas and those suckers are everywhere.

The picture is spooky, what makes him so sure it was a bird? What if it was actually a person, or being wearing a big black cloak? Something wearing a big cloak can make the same noise he was describing.
