I hear a lot of talk about the "Age of Aquarius" and the "Aquarian Age". To my knowledge the Age of Aquarius was a song that came right before "Let the Sun Shine" in the musical HAIR. Is there an actual definition of the Aquarian Age?

Okay I am trying to remember for Western Civ but basically it has to do with sky shifts and which sign of the zodiac is in a ruling position.
For example the cult of Mithra is thought to have been born out of one of these shifts. Humans believed he had literally shifted the stars . . . to fall beneath him
Ugh, that is all I can remember right now but I just woke up. I'll think of more later.
Try a search on google and look up info on current theories on the cult of Mithra. ;)

Well in astrology there are time shifts between signs in the zodiac .... the shifting of the earth over time, found out in the 2nd century by greek astronomer called Hipparchus, deals with the precession of the equinoxes through the signs (when the earths axix's subtly tilt) .. and it changes signs every 2,100 years (great month) or so, and the time it all takes is 26,000 years (called great year). Each great month is refered to as an age.... some examples of this:
age of leo (10,000 bc - 8000bc)-- characterized from by the energy and creativity of humans learning new ways to use their enviroment.. learned agriculture and so the sun (leos ruling sign) was very important to them, astrologers say even the cave paintings show leos influence..
age of cancer (8000 bc- 6000 bc)- humans began abandoning their caves and formed houses above ground (cancerian influence to make a home..) learned to spin/ weave, make pottery, domesticate animals, moon worship/ fertility rites common (cancer is the sign of dometicity, fertility and motherhood)
ext ext....
Now aquarius is characterised by brotherhood (world peace possible? looking beyond racial and cultural differences?), learning (amazing new intellectual acheivements), science (new progressions in science and invention, space travel anyone? ;)), aquarius is also a practical sign so we would be putting these inventions ext to good use... also aquarians are just free thinkers and eccentric at times, so this could possibly explain the upsurge in new age/ pagan practises.. And this age is generally thought to have begun in the year 2000..
Well I hope that helped you out.. If you're curious for more, the book I learned this stuff from is called "The only astrology book you'll ever need" by joanna martine woolfolk.

hmm I dont know what The Cult of Mithra has to do with the aquarian age, but I did do a search...
and all i could find were a few articles written by Colledge Students who obviously had no idea what they were talking about...
one of em actually said that Freemasonry was rooted in Mithra..
well hey, since it was brought up, I will give you all this link and you can get the facts and see both sides and judge for yourself!

and yeah, I read that in Woolfolk's book too, apparently in 98 was marked the astrological beggining of the new Aquarian age :)

Looks to me, Xander, that Mithrea was using the cult as an example of a civilization affected by 'sky shifts' and changing ages, like the change to the age of aquarius. I would look forward to seeing what else you can tell us about that cult in another thread, Mith :)

Very OT now but:
Actually it was not brought up in this thread. If you would like to know how the two (or three now) subjects are linked try "Mysteries of Mithra" by Franz Cumont.
