The next suit we will be exploring is the Suit of Swords. I thought I'd do this suit next because in my mind, I get Wands and Swords qualities mixed up. So, hopefully, this will help bring some mental clarity! Oh, and the Air signs that are associated with Swords are: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

SWORDS

The Swords are the suit of intellect, thought and reason. They are concerned with justice, truth and ethical principles. Swords are associated with the element Air. A cloudless sky, open and light-filled, is a symbol of the mental clarity that is the Swords ideal. This suit is also associated with states that lead to disharmony and unhappiness. Our intellect is a valuable asset, but as an agent of ego, it can lead us astray if it is not infused with the wisdom of our Inner Guide.

Okay, again take three positive and three negative traits to work with and grow from, initially. The three Positives I have chosen are: Clear headed, logical and witty. The three Negatives I have chosen are: Arrogant, controlling and detached. I chose these because the jumped off the page at me. They made the most sense to me also. What did you choose and why?

I would also like to see some discussion on how these two suits differ. What type of things happen with this suit? What types of professions do you think fall under the Suit of Swords? What type of people? Can you name someone in your life that fits some of these descriptions? Do you know a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius? Does this Suit describe them in some/all aspects?

Let's get some discussion going, both here and in the Suit of Wands thread!

:D

I feel the Suit of Wands has a 'seize the day' type vitality. They see an opportunity and take it. I don't think it's in them to sit and rationalize things like Swords do. If they did, their opportunity may pass them by.

Whereas, the Suit of Swords are more laid back style, but have that air of sophistication and refinement that only the clear thinking swords can have. Royalty, dignity and refinement come to mind.

Professions of Swords:

I think maybe: Politicians, Paramedics/trama surgeons, Lawyers and Judges have a type of Swords mentality.

Do I know a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius?

Yes I do. And Silver Venus knows about this one. My most recent Ex Boyfriend, Stanley is a Libra. And I think the three positive and negative traits I have choosen fit him almost too well. (Positives: Clear headed, logical and witty. Negatives: Arrogant, controlling and detached.) He lives up to a true Swords type person. That is why I have decided to but him on the back burner and just let things play out. I have decided not to pursue the matter at the time-being! And I think I will benefit the most from that decision! :D So, YES, the Suit describes him almost perfectly!

Okay, I've shared my answers....YOUR TURN!!!

Swords=air~Thinking, clearminded, analytical. Our thoughts are much like air, you can't see it, but it sure can feel the affects!

Post when ever you are ready. I would be interested to read what meanings you came up with!

Try this....lay out all of the Swords, in order and look for a main theme in the suit....not just card by card, but overall. Can you see the thought process going on?~ or the lack thereof??

Main theme of Swords-deffinitely determination to move forward despite what obstacles come about. Sometimes they teach us a lesson or two, sometimes they cause us to take a step back in order to assess the situation we may find ourselves in.

Three positive keywords-logical,incisive,unbiased. Three negatives-aloof,cutting, domineering.

I know a Gemini-my brother. He does have the ability to be logical, incisive and unbiased, but the three negatives tend to really get in his way. Aloof, cutting and domineering describe him to a tee.

Jobs I'm stumped on. I'll have to get back to you later.

I've always thought that swords were associated with fire and that wands are associated with air.

<scratches her head> Did I miss something here???

<shrugs> Well *anyways*, I'll give this a try. :D

Ok, traits: positive - direct, honest, clear headed; negative - aloof, controlling, domineering

Profession: I think that ya'll have read my mind. I was thinking something legalistic and such. :D

Do I know some one that's an air sign? Yep. My beloved is a Gemini. He's always direct, honest and clear headed. He's often rather aloof and he tends to over analyze things far too much. <chuckles> It's cute but it drives me nuts. I some times wonder if he'll admit that the cigar is just a cigar. :D

Fire/Wands/Swords/Air

It seens that no one can really agree when elements goes with which suit. But, to me, logically, Air is the Thinking/mental element and Swords is the thinking/mental suit, so they, IMHO correspond. The same with wands, passion, ambition and determination I feel are fire traits....so again, for me...they correspond. The deck I use shows Wands with much fire in the pictures also. It just keeps it straight for me.

You choose which correspondence works best for you.

I don't want to repeat whats already been said so heres a few ideas how I remember and associate the swords with..
Sharp, wit, intelligence, arguments, talkin allot but no action, depression and decisions.
The swords "Cuts like a knife" so do harsh words, legal matters and arguments.
The swords are "double edged" so are most decisions.
Lacking intelligence makes one an "air head".

The three positive attributes I have chosen are : Honest, Logical and outspoken
and the three negative attributes are :
Thoughtless, judgemental and cold

Ill have to come back to your other questions Dagda later on this week when Ive had some time to think :D about them...

i always see swords as a fire suit, and wands as an air suit.
its definitely one of those things that different people see differently.
