Today is my son's last day of Elementary school. I'm depressed. Not because of Summer Vacation, I have that pretty much taken care of. I'm sad, cause my Baby isn't my baby anymore, well sort of. He's going into middle school in September. :wah: I'm not coping well.

Can you imagine how sad I'm feeling today, what I'm going to be like in September!!!! My son thinks I'm a nut. So does Eshallet. But they don't understand!!!!!! So, I came in here to whine and commisserate. (sp???)

Good thing he has a packed summer and we received a packet from the school, not only for Summer reading, but things to reinforce their learning and such over the summer. I'm luckier than some parents, my kid actually LIKES school. Last summer, even though he went to camp and all that, about the last week of August he started counting down to going back.

Not only do I have the standard concerns, older kids, keeping up with the work load, growing up, etc. my other concern how he'll react to his teachers. He had made good friends with his Elementary school Gym teacher. The man, Mr. Glashoff, was Goddess sent. He met my son & took him under his wing and my son has flourished while being friends with this man. He's not only a teacher to my son, but a friend and mentor. I've nominated him as "teacher of the year" award at school. He deserves it. All the kids and parents adore him. He teaches them that not only is it important to stay fit, but how much fun it is. They all love going to him for anything.

I know, I'm running on and on.....I get talking about that guy and I get so emotional. But anyway, what I'm saying is it's only June and I'm already freaking out about September. *sigh* I need help.

Thanks for letting me ramble. :smooch:

((HUGS)))

Our babies do grow up so fast and mine is only 6! I wish I had something helpful to say but I don't. I do know that he is going to do wonderful. He is a great kid and you are doing a wonderful job with him. As it gets closer, keep on "whining" here. I'll be here to listen.

Boy! Do I ever understand, LdyStarlite!! My son just finished his first year of middle school. I was a basket case all summer last year, thinking of all the things that could go wrong, bullies, teachers, whatever! :( New school, new situations, will he adjust, make new friends? etc? Will he get good teachers?

He had a great year! He loved it and is looking forward to grade 7 in September. I had talked to parents of my son's friends and they all felt the same way. The parents with older kids kept reasurring us that it's not as bad as we imagined it will be. They're so right.

Now, I'm stressing out about high school! It never ends. :)

I have a picture of him, on his first day of kindergarten, sitting on my desk! *snif!*

I picked him up from daycare today and he says "Mom, I'm an official 5th grader now!" Took all my self control not to cry then and there.

I also got his report card! <happy dance begins here>

MY BOY GOT AWESOME GRADES! AND ON HIS STATEWIDE TEST HE SCORED........96 OUT OF 100!!!!!!

*go J-man go J-man* :boing: :boing: :boing:

Can you tell I'm a proud mom.

*a proud mom who's scared to death about her son starting middle school in the fall. :P *

I know how ya'll feel!
My mom tells me of my youngest...."He's not a baby anymore; but we want him to grow up, don't we?"
Well, she's right ya know. We really wouldn't want them to stay little forever. We want them to grow into strong, independent, useful citizens.;) Just keep that thought rollin' round in your head when you get that urge to tear up!
Kindergarten graduation bout tore me up! Next spring I'll be attending my oldest son's 8th grade graduation....wonder how I'll do? (Then the next spring, I'll have to do it all again for the middle son's 8th graduation!)
(puts hand to side of mouth yellin'), "OLD WITCH", Where are you?
Com'on, tell us it gets easier! (LOL)

eek Middle school/ jr. high IS tough. I went from being praised constantly by teachers and getting a 3.8 out of 4.0 grade point average to the teachers couldnt remember my name and getting a 2.0 GPA. Thats not so easy on a little Leo!

Sadly I dont think there is much that can be done until he adjusts. Some kids do just wonderfully, though so I wouldnt worry too much. And most kids that I've talked to say that highschool is much less stressful than Middle school. I've found that to be true as well.
