Coatesville, Pa. - (AP) - A mysterious animal - described by witnesses as having a small head, a neck a foot long, the jumping ability of a deer and a scream like that of two cats - was reported prowling through Chester county woods today.

There were some who received the reports with skepticism, but Sylvester Scott, 31-year-old farmer, vowed he saw the what-is-it and three times had heard its eerie wail echoing over the countryside. Others said they had been “gunning” for it.

:woah:

Whatever it is, it's harmless! Most of the images make it look so cute! I'd love to see it!

oooh it could be a new species of animal! Or on the downside it could be an illegally smuggled animal. I don't see any pictures of it.

Yea, let me pose that question to my peeps on the cryptid forum I peruse ocasionally (or see if it wasn't already brought up for that matter).

Two animals come readily to mind as far as the scream is concerned. Both are native to the Appalachian area, and screech or scream eerily enough to be mistaken regularly for other phenoms and creatures.

Mountain Lion- can sound like an old woman, or a screaming baby. (the latter is what I percieved it to be when I was a kid)

Screeching Owl- Startles the hell outta me every time I hear it.
....
As for the physical descriptor, I know they have an African Wildlife preserve in Ohio, it is possible that one of their subjects escaped. They are just now forming tighter laws in Ohio in regards to exotic pets as well (that led to an interesting media fiasco involving an octopus in the river). Also, (and these seem the most plausible culprits to me, as they both have lead to many strange animal reports in the mid-Ohio valley, and WV. Emus and Alpacas are somewhat popular in the area. (though I'm not for sure if that trend extends to Pennsylvania)

Okay, according to a guy that lived there, the Coatesville monster was actually a combo of a loose mountain lion and a pair of emu's, it turns out that the mountain lion was someone's pet that had escaped, the same for the emu's, they were running around, and the ensuing histeria that enveloped the area had the cops driving around with a mega-phone telling everyone to stay inside their houses, people kept their kids out of school for fear that they'd get eaten. According to my source this whole matter was resolved whenver the mountain lion and the emus were caught.
