I was always told snakes are not a bad sign but a sing of change to come. The fact they shed thier skin is a symbol of our ability to change and start a new life. The fact the snake appears to be attacking makes me think its a sign that you are resisting the change the snake represents.
Sort of you are aware of the impending change but it scares you so you resist even though the change is unavoidable. The imagery of the striking snake but not bitting makes me think it is an outside force that is causing the change and not internal.
Just out of curosity do you know the type of snake?

Just my own personal idea on the whole thing... I strongly dislike the idea of other people telling me what the symbols in my dreams mean (although I gladly ask for advice on them, don't get me wrong!)... the thing is, symbols mean different things for different people.
So, say for example you have a phobia of snakes, it would probably be either a bad omen or a symbol of fear. On the other hand, if you're like me and absolutely love snakes, it may not be as bad of an omen (of course, if he was attacking you, it could mean something different entirely). Get what I mean?

well how do you feel about snakes? are you afraid of them? do you dislike them? are you cool with them? perhaps you or someone has been lashing lately or there's been a tense situation where between you and someone else where you've both kept quiet but it's been building up, and the dream could reflect your's or their's pent up feelings
