My son just turned 4 and he has grown up hearing DH or I say “Well I am off to my Moon Circle or ritual…”. He always asks and begs to go too. We did attend a family Beltane party and ritual last spring at a friends house. We danced the maypole and sang some songs. He liked it a lot, but it was more of a party scene to him.
This last full moon I asked him if he wanted to do moon circle with mom. Oh yes he did! So I created a simple ritual that went like this….
We used a small round table (his craft table) with a cloth, goddess candle, moon blessed water and some supplies. He loves stones and just got a little bag of polished ones. We put those on the altar too. We put a dab of moon water on our foreheads as a purification. He became soooo serious it was kinda shocking and really sweet! Then I played the circle round song and we danced around the altar to cast the circle.
Then we called the directions and elements by using his stones. I had him pick a colour for each direction and then I said some words of welcome. He also threw his arms in the air to welcome them. Then we welcomed the Goddess and lit the candle. I played the full moon song on the CD and we danced some more.
At first I didn’t know what to actually “do” for the ritual but then I was given a great idea. DH had not been feeling well, so I decided we could make a blessed herbal healing tea for him. So I got out the herbs and a mortal/pestel. We sprinkled the herbs in together and used the pestel to just stir them. DS loved this part and he really got into. I talked about healing Dad and what we could add to the herbs. I asked what DS wanted to add and he replied “blood” uhhhhhhhh ok. Wasn’t sure but I smiled. We chanted how much we loved Daddy into the herbs.
Then Dad walked by and DS got sooooo very excited as he told him that we were gonna make him feel better at the moon circle. So we put on a variety of music, including a pirate song and danced to raise energy. Dad did some drumming too LOL DS went back for some moon water anointing another 4-6 times.
Finally we closed the circle the short way and we continued to enjoy some fun chanting and drumming together. DS wanted to do it all over again too and spare no details hehehehe So now I gotta think about what to do next month!
And hey if any of you have some ideas for me….. I was thinking of adding 3 small tokens to our altar. They would represent our spirit selves, especially if one of us were not physically at the rituals. I don’t want to use candles and we already have a lot of stones. What else can I use?
Thanks for letting me share,
