Hi all!

I am from finland and very new to pagan ways, but learning.. Here we have a grave in the forest that is built with rocks huge pile actually, And in one rock there is this symbol and i have tried to find what it is. Its not a good picture but i tried to draw the lines maybe somebody know what it is or some information on it. Here is a rumour that it is a witch grave. The symbol is not whole i couldnt draw all the lines but here it is.

Thanks in advance :)

but to me... it almost looks like an angel.

Very neat symbol, whatever it may be.

Good luck on your hunt. There is a good possibility that someone here knows what it stands for. :)

It is a witch symbol--It symbolizes the Goddess taking the lady on her next journey.
It is nothing to fear nor is it that unusual although I have seen this done as a finger tracing on graves not as an actual drawing and you did draw it rather well even though your lines are probably straighter than the orginal drawings.

It traces the person's hertiage.

Welocme Torgie! Enjoy your comfy seat and the lemonade!

Fawn has given a very good description of the symbol, I am not familiar with the traditions of the area. It's what makes this community so interesting. It is very difficult for one person to know everything, but to have many people who are familiar with many different things is a strength.

You know I was thinking it kind of looked like one of the symbols on the Stargate in the movie STARGATE. hehehehe ;)

But I'm sure Fawn's description is more accurate.

Where did I get that information from?
I grew up in a Tradional family and one of the first things we learned was (trying to think of the English term for it--"picture writing scripts") and I learned this from my family.
Also---I can not seem to remember what year of school it was but I ran into this in a 'history' class when we were studying the world and differrent beliefs. (That's really going way back there)

"picture writing scripts", there are four possible english words for that, "pictograms" or "pictographs", "hieroglyphics" (usually used for ancient egyptian writing as seen in tombs) and "runes" or "runics" commonly seen in the norselands and used comparitively late in history, up into the viking period.

(and welcome aboard torgie)

i'm very pleased to see torgie join us, finland has a very strong set of traditions and its own unique tradition of magic and some very interesting hero tales. perhaps torgie might be persuaded to share them with us?

MM All

I was going to say that the symbol seemed to have planetary meaning.

Fawn, I would love to learn more about picture scripts too!

If there are texts/references that you could point me to I would be grateful. Some books I have read talk about creating your own symbolic language, which I agree with. But I also like to learn about others paths and what different symbols mean to them.

Blessings

Xois--no honey, I never took your question as a challenge.
I would love to find a book about it myself but honestly my Grandmother set me down and taught this to us 'young'uns' in my traditon--we all are taught from day one about the Goddess and God and given lessons at home just as we had at school only on our beliefs.

But I'll keep an eye outr and IF I find a site that has this--I will happily share it with you all!! Ok?

Or if someone else finds a stie before me--please share it with me also.

Hi all!

I would be happy too to learn from those picture scripts. They are interesting and if somebody knows a good resourse on traditional paganism or a book called gandarye.. Here is something new on that grave: My friend went there a few years ago in midnight, he couldnt get there. the grave is located in top of a hill and he just couldnt glimb there. It seemed that there was a wall in front of him..And few days later my other friend went there at daylight they get passed that wall so it is on only midnight but she didnt go there alone but with few friends and one of them got very sick, headache and stomachache and he almost got panic. It seems that someone he or she doesnt want everyone to get there. Anyway we are going to go there with my friend on next sunday, she has been there ones so at least she can get there heh. I read about something called mountain panic and spirit guardian and all the happenings on the grave is similar to those things. they are beliefs from traditional paganism..and id be happy to tell a few heroic stories from finland but ill have to find them first i dont remember them heh Have a nice day everyone..
