What xmas stories do you tell your kids? The only one I know is The Night Before Christmas (and even that I had to look up online as I could barely remember it lol)

Sadly, I don't. The only story they get is on Xmas eve and it's from my minister dad relaying the story of Jesus' birth. I just sit on egg shells every year hoping that one of my kids doesn't pipe up and ask who Jesus is. We do tell the Santa lie, but that's just for fun.

I really like "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" since being in the play version. Our theater dept did it for children's theater when I was at community college, and it was really fun. I think it would work for storytelling without the book if you're familiar with the story, although the pictures are definitely part of the fun.

Also, I guess I don't see any reason why it couldn't be The Grinch Who Stole Yule, if you have a Yule tree, a feast, and gifting. :D

My husband traditionally reads Night Before Christmas and I read 'Twas the Night Before Yule.

We have had to look it up on line also, so don't feel bad about that Rayne. When we moved down here all our books got put in storage, so even with the annual telling we were debating with each other what line went where. We finally had to break down and look it up. lol Last year we bought another copy of the book so we didn't have to struggle or google right before hand. lol

My kids love The Grinch too, but I have to admit I cheat and we usually watch it as a family on tv, rather than read it. Unless they choose to check it out from the library.

this might be a bit off, odd... but, i do recall reading a story (as s a child) that has remained in my mind over the years.

:) it was o'henry's, "gift of the magi"

dunno, i just always felt that this short piece portrayed the spirit of christmas far more pointedly than most "traditional" christmas stories.

but then again, i'm a bit strange that way. :)
