View Full Version : "Resetting" Cards

Okay, I have never really felt comfortable with the "normal" ways of cleansing cards. I don't let anyone touch mine and I think that the energy lingers in my hand not the cards so I cleanse my hands with salt water before and after a reading. However I do "reset" them every once in a while. Just when the time feels right.

All I do is put them back in the order they came in. I know it may sound silly but sometimes, I just think they need it. Okay ;) just thought I'd share . . .

It's also a really good way to get a similar effect to cleansing but you can use your cards immediately (i.e. don't have to leave them in the sun or with or wait for a crystal to absorb the energy or whatever) and it doesn't offend the cards (like banging them on a table).

I do that sometimes too but never knew why. Incidentally on the banging the cards on the table, I'm sure some decks get offended but one friend of mine does that all the time and has no problems with her deck. Then again I don't feel comfortable doing it either! :)

I didn't think it was any big deal either to bang them on the table. Then I tried it. I had to apologize to them for a week :) It was awful. They actually still worked okay, it just felt wrong when I did it  I'm a weenie that way :)

lol, I don't think that's it at all! lol I think it's the guilty over "disrespecting" something that is valuable to you. I have one deck that loves the bang on the table bit, but I know I couldn't do it with other decks I have. I think it's just the vibe I get from each deck that tells me how I can 'cleanse or reset' my deck. ;)

*smiles* You know, I do that every time I get done with a reading...it's automatic for me, like I can't stand putting the cards back into their space all out of order.

I do that every once and awhile too - sometimes I think they make patterns based on the energy around them, and that helps release it.

I do that every couple of months too. It also helps me become familiar with cards that don't come up alot as I sort them. Plus each suit in my deck tells a story and it reminds me of that.

I don't do the regular cleansing. I feel it drains the cards. I've found they work better the more they're used, the built up energy helps instead of confuses in my case.

I don't cleanse my cards that often, but I don't use them too much either... I'm still too busy learning each one (in depth) to do readings too often.

I do, however, find that they benefit from being left in moonlight for a little while (but don't we all). I either find a clear place on the floor, or I clear off the coffee table, and shove it in front of the window, and lay each card out, side by side, face up in the moonlight for an hour or two (or until a cat sends one flying).
It's somewhat like giving them a cool shower.. it seems refreshing to me.

Lately I've been leaving mine in the window during a full moon; sometimes I pass them through incense smoke too. Though, I never bang my Tarot cards on the table, I *always* do with playing cards. I don't know why I do that, it just feels different between the two decks. *shrug*

It's never occurred to me to 'reset' a deck, but now, darnit, I'm gonna. Normally to cleanse my cards I fan them out and blow on them, letting my personal energies (my breath) gently blow away any other energies.

I'd never heard of any of these ways to cleanse tarot cards before - I normally sleep with mine under my pillow!(But it can be a bit lumpy)

I totally understand what you are all saying about the decks having their own personalities.
My main deck are the ones I use most often, and they are a really bright, happy, optimistic, but tactless deck. They give me the best results!
The death card is especially pretty, and due to the nature of the artwork, it doesn't scare people the way it normally does when that card appears.
(I've actually got a pic of it on the marketplace forum, if anyone wants to see what I mean)
