I received this in an e-mail, author unknown:

1) A quartz crystal placed on or near the stove when cooking makes food taste better.

2) A pot of basil herb grown in your kitchen keeps the area safe from evil forces and negative spirits.

3) Candles keep their shape better and burn longer when chilled thoroughly in the refrigerator.

4) A witch's kitchen should never be without a lunar calendar or chart showing the phases of the moon and its movement through the wheel of the zodiac.

5) A full moon increases extrasensory perception and is the ideal time to prepare and use potions that increase the psychic abilities.

6) Love philtres and aphrodisiacs should always be prepared during the waxing of the moon.

7) The best time to plant an herb or vegetable garaden is when the moon is in Cancer, Scorpio, Libra or Pisces.

8) Homemade magickal incenses, oils, sachets and potpourris become more fragrant if aged several months before used.

9)Homemade incense always should be stored in tightly capped or corked jars.

10)Unlucky influences should be kept away from the kitchen when cooking or preparing magickal recipes, and this is accomplished by stirring in a clockwise (deosil) direction.

11)An aloe vera plant should be kept in the kitchen, as its juices are an instant cure for minor kitchen burns.

12)Herbal preparations should never be boiled in alumimum vessels, but in only copper, earthenware or pyrex to avoid contamination of the medicines.

13)Before casting spells or preparing potions, always keep in mind the Wiccan Rede: "Do what ye will an it harm none."

I can vouch for number 11. I got a burn when making the cooking part of my social studies project (soda bread), because i bumped the inside of my arm against the oven.

It looks pretty bad, but I put some aloe from an aloe plant kept above the sink on it, and now I don't even have a scar :).

Number 8 is very true also. I make oils and they really don't reach their full fragrance for at least a month.

Hmmmm, I thought my rosemary plant had died, but when I plunked the pot back outside, it came back! I was able to save all of the needles and have been adding them to salad dressing, tabouli and all of the oils that I make. Will have to see if anyone who's ingested them gets any smarter!

Burning a few drops of rosemary essential oil in a difusor will help when you're studying. Gingko biloba will help your memory too.

In reference to #10, it makes more sense to me that one would stir counterclockwise to banish negativity and evil while cooking. *shrugs* am I thinking in reverse here or am I actually making sense for once?

*smiles* I think #10 is oddly worded.

When I'm cooking, I stir clockwise to bring in blessings and plenty for those who eat the food.

However, I've read in someplaces that if you're looking to cut down on hostilities with what you serve, stirring in a counterclockwise motion can be helpful.

I think it just depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Also, you should never cook when you're angry or having an argument. It really does come out in the food, especialy for a Witch.

Use sparingly. The essential oils in Rosemary are actually HIGHLY TOXIC if ingested in large doses. The usual amounts used in culinary are ok , but NEVER take doses like you would Ginko. It also has an accumulative effect, it does not dissipate out of the body rapidly, building up in fatty tissue.

I spy a new list to go up in my kitchen! (And a new home for my quartz) Thanks for these Freya.

I don't so much cook when I'm angry as when I'm upset. I find baking really thereputic, perhaps it's something to do with getting to pound the hell out of it when you're kneeding.

I have discovered that experimenting when you're upset or angry is a bad idea though, it usually makes the whole thing worse because I get heavy handed with hings and it all comes out wrong.

That has gotten me into sooooooo much trouble around here! At one time we had more candles in the fridge than we had food!

oh my is that ever the truth!!!
While married to my first husband, sometimes he would go off and start hollering at me and trying to start an arguement.

One morning, he got up as I was fixing his sandwhiches for lunch.
He started his hollering session, and i'm a quite type, and someone hollering at me first thing in the morning just ruins my whole day.

I kept making his lunch and he kept hollering, i did not turn to speak to him cause I knew it would only get worse...

I don't remember what it was about it's been sooo long ago, but he made me so mad that I made him an extra sandwhich and put it on top of the rest, all were wrapped seperate.

The top sandwhich was 2 pieces of bread and the air dried dishrag from the sink!

he took a bite and threw the sandwhich, (I've had other people tell me the story that worked with him) threw himself a fit at work and got razzed by the guys for P-Oing his wife!

When he came home i expected the worse!
He appologized for hollering at me that morning and promised he'd never holler at me while i fixed him something to eat!

Hmmm, why this is true on oils, i always find that incenses(stick....like found in stores) are best when freshly made, but maybe that is just me, after awhile they start to smell almost musty... but you should always keep them in an airtight container...

And another tip to add: always have cooking tools in easy to reach places, if you have to dig forever it'll just cause negitive energy.
