I have been informed that the illness I have been suffering from for 2 years, thought to be IBS might be Hepititus C.
I have a test tommorow.
I'm terrified.

all i can say is try to keep calm. you dont know for definate that it is Hepititus C, when you get the results, then you can decide what you are/can do.

try not to worry yourself until you know for definate!

:hugz: Calm down and take a deep breath. No need to get scared until you actually know what the results are. If they diagnose you, always get a second opinion. When doctors say something like that, they are making an educated GUESS. They take a bunch of symptoms (sometimes out of context) and lump them together and say "You have THIS". They are often wrong, but a lot of patients think doctors are infallible so they just accept it at face value. Always get a second opinion for something like that. Even if you do have Hep C, it's not a death toll, people live long healthy lives with it all the time. It's very treatable and manageable.

(Without knowing anything about your condition) I would also ask about Crohn's disease - it's often linked to IBS and I think is something that is harder to diagnose because one of the main factors is fatigue and doctors are always stumped by fatigue. There are so many factors that cause fatigue, doctors will just try things until they figure out the source. When possible, research your symptoms yourself!!!! And if your doctor gets snarky about your personal research, scoffs at it, GET A NEW DOCTOR!!!! They are there for your health, you are not there for their ego!

You do realize that Hepatitis C is curable?

Just be glad you're not being tested for AIDS.

I went to the doctor once for a tingling sensation in my legs (that turned out to be something harmless, I forgot what.) The moron thought it was AIDS (despite the fact that I was and am completely monogamous) and had me go through a week of hell as I got the test and waited for resuluts.

Don't worry yourself; this is something transient, you'll be fine, regardless of the results.

:hugz: Just take things in stride. Don't panic over what really could be nothing. I do that. I do enough of it for half of the planet, actually. Wait until you hear back about results and then cross that bridge if you come to it, and then treat everything that has to do with it similarly.

:hugz: again.

Please calm down hun. Hep C isn't the worst thing out there and it is curable. Depending on what geno type you have (it will either be 1, 2 or 3 *if you have it*) and what your viral load is (that is how much of the virus you have in your system) things can be taken from there to see if you need any medication. This will either be Interferon (sp?) or Riberviron (sp?) or a combination of both. This medication can get rid of the virus or if you've had the Hep C for a long time can reduce your viral load quite a bit. Some people even rid themselves of the Hep C so it just depends. Many people live with the Hep C and die of natural causes or of something totally different, so please don't panic too much. It's nothing like HIV or anything like that. It really depends on how long you've had the Hep for (if you have it at all) and what the viral load/count is. The medication normally works wonders and it will probably only be a 6 month course you'll go on (again, if you actually have Hep C). It can make you feel pretty crappy at times (the medication) but nothing where you won't be able to work, etc, (well it shouldn't do anyway). Please try to calm down hun!

If you need to talk please PM me :)

And don't panic!!!

Glad to hear you've calmed down some. I know it's hard, especially now having to wait two weeks, but worrying about it will not change the outcome, so just try and blank it out as much as possible until nearer the time. If it is Hep C it is a managable virus (often curable) and you're still young so that goes for you as well :)

Please keep us informed....

Go and do something nice now or spoil yourself by buying something you've wanted for ages, and take your mind off things. You deserve it from all the stress!
