o.o what on EARTH is this supposed to mean?
I had a candle burning, inscribed with runes, as par Practical Rune Magick #1. . . . everything seems to have been going wonderfully tonight with it.
So I felt like looking a a bit closer at the candle. I went to pick it up, and looked at it for a moment.
the next thing I know, it's as though someone jarred the candle. Wax comes flying out over my thumb and arm and cpu. I dropped the candle back on it's holder, where it landed crooked and proceeded to stay that way, still burning, but with a sputtery, weak flame.
What the heck is this about!?
the wax tha tnearly covered my thumb stung like the dickens, especially the way energy work rebound stings. . . It hurts like a burn, but. . . there's no physical burn. My arm, where wax also landed, doesn't hurt. And Aloe lotion doesn't really help.
what on earth just happened here? I didn't knock it or anything - just BAM, it's suddenly possessed the moment I was close and looking. I wasn't physically injured when by all rights, I should have been, yet it still hurts. And after several moments of burning with a weak, sputtery flame, it's burning steady again.
what on earth is going on here???

I've had experiences with candles that refused to go out, etc. and a friend of mine asked that everything she no longer needed be removed from her life......the candle went nuts and burned her house down....no joke.....
Seems like this may have been an indication of the type of energy in your ritual, but I don't know what the connection is to your being injured in the process.
I read an article a few years ago by Silver Ravenwolf where she explained how to "read" the energy in your candles by how the flame was burning. It was in an old Llewelyn's Magickal Almanac and I'm not sure if it's also in one of her books. If I can find it I'll post it here for you.

If it were me, I would guess that something was telling me not to screw with my candles while they were working. Could have been the candles themselves. Once my candles are lit and working, I leave them alone. Do you like it when someone monitors your progress while you are trying to help them?
And Freyja  That's why I always stress to people to be VERY CAREFUL of the wording of their spells. . . :( I've seen so many backfire that way.

I seem to remember something in Patricia Telesco's Candle Magick book. I'll check tonight too.

yeah yous are right on, from what I ahve read, you are supposed to leave the candle alone once the spell has been cast and not to think about it, you are suposed to let the higher powers do the work, and the candle itslef will serve as a reminder that your will is being addressed in the astral.
I also read that its good to leave it in a less conspicous place and if anyone asks what it is for, jsut make something up, anythign than what it is for, this way no one can "Accindently" hinder a spell by their negativity

Well if you were lighting it for the reason I think you were I imagine there's still hurt feelings and angry people involved. It may signal that the resolution won't be easy or that someone is against what you were doing, or that even you aren't ready for it to work (not saying that you don't want it to or anything, just that sometimes we have to slog through the muck a bit more then we'd like).
Or it may mean you were supposed to leave the candle alone, lol, I don't know, that answer is for you :)

yeah, Myst. . . that's kind of the feeling I got when I was looking at it for a moment. . . as though there was something pushing against it. . . I don't know if that makes sense. Something pushing against the energies? And then boom wax everywhere.
I'm really not sure how it would be possible to oppose what i was doing. . . just asking for help to like. . . be able to heal, and find my path, to be able to do the right things. . . . it's hard to describe. . . **was going more on emotion than words** (and no, I wasn't thinking negative thoughts about anyone - at this point, I just want to heal and let things be)
*chuckles* on the other hand. . . mayhaps leaving the candle alone is a better idea!!!

I know what you mean tho, I'm asking for the same things now, albeit for a different reason and around different circumstances.
Maybe it's saying yeah this has been hard but there's something you have to learn from it being hard or this had to be painful? Or here's a warning this is gonna continue to be difficult? I dunno, I'm basically just rambling :D

yeah I think I understand what you mean
"we're doing all we can to help, but even gods can't control the things stupid, vengeful people do. We'll help as best we can! Hang in there!"
maybe also "the wax gave you sharp pain, that lasted for a while. . . but you weren't actually burned. You are hurt deeply, yes, but it won't cripple your life." I dono me and symbolism. . . ;)

...perhaps a small 'sacrifice' was required of you to make the magic work...

well, all done!
it surprised me (well this was a while ago LOL didn't update right away) by the fact that it burned pretty oddly. . . melted, that is. It melted all leaning cardinal north, burned away south, southeast, and southwest. The other half or so of the candle leaned straight north. Boy did it melt! But the wax never spilled out once.
One night I came back into my room to find that the wick had buried itself in wax. I couldn't dig it out if I wanted to.
So I guess it's done!! (yaaay no more injuries *knock on wood*)
