Ok ok so I'm not a dummie.

But I'm curious - what kind of runes would be best to start with?

Rick - I noticed in your thread in the auction forum that there's more than one kind of rune set. . . ?? I didn't realize! (kinda like fonts? ;) ) What kind would be best for a beginner? And Wood, or that other stuff? Do you have any reccomendations?

I have come to realize, it may be wise to begin looking for runes!! :D fate doesn't guide, it gives you a nudge, then a push, then a kick in the pants ;) trying to avoid the kick here

What do you think! hehe any advice?

I started with the Elder Futhark. They have the most information available, i think ;).

I'd go with the Elder Futhark... yep, there's more info that's more generally available on them; easier to find a reference when you need one... they are also 'closer to the source', in my opinion...

As to the material, that's a matter of preference... I'll continue to argue that if the Ancestors had plastic polymers (Sculpy, etc) 1500-2000 years ago, that would be a traditional Rune material today... :D You have to weigh convenience (buying a set ready made, or making one out of Sculpy, or painting Runes on stones, etc), against tradition (carving your own set from the branch of a fruit tree, or a birch tree, etc)...

Yes, best to go quietly when nudged... :T

The most helpful method I found for myself was to make my own set out of Sculpey. I formed them and carved them, and after they were fired I painted them. This gave me quite a bit of time to focus and meditate on each rune.
