well there is this cat that has been comming around and I feed it, it has been around scince it was a kitten, I never took him in because I have a cat and I dont know how he'd react plus not sure about shots etc
well I dont mind feeding him
but the thing is, when he sees me at the back door comming out with a dish of cat food, he runs up and gets under foot and I gently nudge him away so i can get down the steps,
he still comes back!!!
so I have been useing the front door and walking around,
I fell once a few months ago because as I went to step down he was there so i jerked my foot forward, it was either , fall or step on cat.
tonight, he was meowing to eat, so I fixed his food and went to go out the front door, I didnt expect him to be there, but the lil bugger outsmarted me, and got under foot,
well I jumped up to avoid stepping on him when i landed, i landed with half a foot on the step, and fell back , this time hitting my head on the step... now I have a lump on my head and lucky for me I have my emergency stash of Darvicet for times like these,
Im gonna call my DR on Fri if i am still in pain, but the thing is
I dont mind takeing care of him, If anyone knows of any way I can teach him not to get under foot like that it would be greatly appreciated, ... I would like to find a home for him, ... I tryed to get him to come in even last week, to see how Sam (My cat) would react, but he wont come in,
and I will not Harm an animal spo I dont want to give him to the SPCA because if they cant find a home they will put him down...
ANY thoughts, advice, anything would be much appreciated..
thank you very much!

my suggestion would be carry a spray water bottle with you ...squirting him a few times WILL NOT HURT HIM...but he may get the message to stay down untill you put the food down!! It worked for my cat with jumping on counters.

In my experience, many strays do that. If they will come near you at all, that is. I think it's because they are just as starved for attention as they are for food.
I would recommend bringing it in since you seem willing. The problem is you shouldn't do that until it's had it's shots because of the risk to your cat. So it's sort of a catch 22. But I would say get the shots, introduce it to Sam and give it a go. Then at least you are doing something and if it doesn't work out you can cross that bridge later.
But this is coming from the crazy cat lady . . .

If your cat has it's shots up to date it shouldn't matter anyway.

Yes, if your cat has it's shot's, esp feline lukemia, it should be okay to let it in. Just do it so the cat thinks it's his/her idea, and maybe introduce it to something like a small back room or porch area at first.

What we did in a similar situation...
We had 3 cats, all adults, when my hubby started feeding the stray kitten whoo was only a few weeks old. When he was around 8 weeks old, we made an appt with the vet. An hour or so before the appt, we had to lure him into the cat carrier. You should have an easier time of that than we did! Got him tested, brought him home and and gave him a flea bath. We tried to keep him in one room as much as possible and let the adults get used to his scent.
Soon after we got another kitten and he buddied up to her right away. They were Rhett and Scarlett. Rhett was a grey tabby with a mustache and Scarlett is a calico and bratty!
Oh and they will test for Feline AIDS, which Sam could catch if the stary has it. I don't believe there is a vaccine of any dort for that one. And definitely make sure your cat has a feline leuk. shot. Mine are all indoors so we don't get that one for them.
The other thing you can try is to find a No Kill Shelter. I know the one up by me supposedly has a no kill policy unless the animal is a danger or very ill.
.....so what are you going to name him?....

Thank you everyone, for your advice,.....
I think I am gonna try the water bottle ... My Mother says she may know someone who wants him... but she is not sure...
:) I snapped a picture of him, he kinda looks like Tom from tom and Jerry, and he has really beautiful green eyes, not emerald green, but more of a mint green...

A beautiful kitty Xander. It looks a lot like my granddaughter's cat, Oreo. I wish I could have cats, but they make me have asthma. So I can only admire from afar. Good luck with which ever decision you make.

AWWW He's so cute! I'm the kind of "can we keep him, PLEEEAASSEE" type of person, so advice from me would be to see if Sam likes him! Hee :p
In any case, spraybottles should work. My cat learned most of what she knows through the spraybottle method, and she's such a spaz I didn't think she'd learn anything!

Well in the Morning when Sam comes in to eat, LOL whenever he diecides to make an appearance... the other cat is there and Sam doesnt bother him, but Cats are Extremely territorial, now, the trick is to see how he reatc to him if i can get him inside :)

Stray cats are so desperate to find someone to care for them that they become astonishingly affectionate.
Water bottles filled with plain water are very good for personal safety. Glad it worked for you.
Everybody needs shots. Especially feline leukemia and rabies if it's required in your state.
The resident cat Mr. (Ms.?) Sam will not accept the newcomer immediately, and it could even take months. However, separate feeding and hygenic facilities would smooth things over because male cats (neutered or not) are territorial.
He's a beauty. And he seems to have good taste in people. ;)
