The only way to become comfortable and familiar with your cards is to do readings! Practice, practice, practice! I want you to pick another student....most anyone posting under the lessons, and read for them. You can choose one person, or pick a couple. :) You can do any type of spread you want. One card, three card....more. Whatever!
I want to start seeing other students doing this!
Silver Venus, I think you have been doing a wonderful job with your readings! ;)
Let's get cracking!

Okay, here goes my attempt at a tarot reading outside my immediate household. My son and his friends have been great about letting me read for them. My hubby too!
I did a Celtic Cross reading for Lady Tana, and I pretty much asked what was in store for her this weekend. Hopefully this isn't too late.
Position one-The Empress
Position two-7 of Swords
Position three-Ace of Wands
Position four-4 of Pentacles
Position five-Queen of Pentacles
Position six-The Emperor
Position seven-King of Wands
Position eight-Ace of Pentacles
Position nine-3 of Swords
Position ten-4 of Swords
After studying the cards, I put together a story using keywords that felt appropriate.
Abundance(growth) is yours, but you want to turn away and search for something new. You are afraid of letting go of this security you have, yet with self control and discipline, you can control the regulation of the financial attainment that you desire. What you need to do this weekend, is take the time to find solitude to contemplate upon this issue.
The 5 of Pentacles fell out while I was shuffling. This, to me, confirmed that you deffinitely need a mini getaway, because this issue has been making you feel ill.
I hope I got some of this reading right. ;)
Bright Blessings!

I do alot of my reading intuitively. Is this a bad thing? I don't know the meanings of the cards very well, but I often have impressions and strong images come to me as I'm handling the cards in the spreads that I throw. Often the intuitive meaning that comes to me is different from the meanings that I've seen printed in books and such. Which is better to work with? Do I want to possibly use the "standard" meanings to augment what I learn intuitively from the cards?

Each person will get their own interpretation from cards. I would definately say go with you intuition. It's what the cards say to you that make the reading a success. The beauty of symbolism is that it speaks differently to everyone. What we are trying to do here is get everyone familiar with the cards and giving the traditional meanings to use as a jump point. From there, each card has the ability to take on it's own meaning to the person reading them. I've heard quite often that the tradtional meaning is no where close to the feeling the reader gets from the card. I think your intuition is the key to success. It's how the cards are communicating to YOU that is important! If you draw a blank when reading, then refer to the keywords and it should help you get going with that card. :D
I am not confident in my intuition, but I'm learning here to have more faith in it and myself. I learned the meaning of the cards, then let my intuition kick in. Everyone has a different way of doing it and no way in particular is right or wrong. :D Just go with what feels right for you.

Yep, I totally agree with Dagda :D Go with what the card says to you ~ in the back of your head ~ you know that little voice!
This is a great idea and if anyone who hasnt read for me before wants to.. Im very open to offering myself as a gineua pig!

Im totaly stuck.
granted, i havent bought a book yet but am so eager to do a rading but i dont know how to go about the process of doing one for someone i havent seen before or met, im not even sure how to properly do one for myself.
How does one start, do i sit down take out the cards, ask a question with the persons name included while shuffeling and then place the cards in a spread?
help would be much apreciated.

What do you do when your intuition is way off base from the actual meaning of the card??
Whenever I look at the chariot... I get "travel" popping into my head or "journey"
The card means victory, will, self assertion, and hard control.
I am really trying to stay with the keywords on that one, but the same things pop into my head, time and again.
So, what is one to do with that one?
TIA

Ah, but the chariout could mean travel...by land. A journey or vacation. I can totally relate it. Sometimes the symbolizm is obvious, other times not so. I tend to associate it with traveling...sometimes. Look for other "traveling" cards with it. (the fool, the I think it's 6 of swords....with the boat, knights, they show movement....etc.) And it doesn't have to necessicarily mean physical travel. It could mean a spiritual, mental or emotional journey too.
:D
Keep going with your intuition. :D
