I am a big dummy when it comes to symbolizm. I have read tarot before but I pretty much memorize the meanings of the cards which really doesn't help much in the intuition department. So......I decided to do a daily assignment. I have six decks and I want to compare the cards to each other. For example. Starting on the first day I will get out the fool or its equavlent from each deck and walk around with them all day, examine the similarities, the differences in the pictures and the authors interpretation. Hopefully this will give me a broader insite and perhaps awaken my drowsy intuition.

What do ya'll think?

You might also join in in our card discussions. Right now we are on the Hierophant. http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17718

Writing out your thoughts on each card would be helpful for yourself as well as for others. I also find that while writing my thoughts on the cards, things come to me that I never thought of consciously. ;)

Not a bad idea at all! It will get you more in touch with your cards~!

Symbolism isn't that difficult to interpret though. You just have to have the mind set for it. Look at a card drawn at random. Look at the details of the card. Then pick out what it is that keeps drawing your eyes back to it.....say ....a rainbow in the distance. What does a rainbow represent to you? Freedom? Beauty? Something unattainable? (like the pot of gold at the end?) Hope? Then, when you get that far, tie it into the position the card is setting in....say....the goal position. Were you hoping to get a (job) that was realistically unattainable, and let down when you didn't get it?? Don't forget to tie it into the question asked. (career, relationships...etc.) Did you have high hopes for a relationship that wasn't going anywhere or you knew wouldn't work out? And don't forget about the card before and after the one you are working on, they tie in together too. It's all about weaving a story. ;) The more you can tie the cards, positions and question together, the smoother reading you will have.....and more accurate. :sunny:

Good luck with your project!

Well I finished it today. I campared my six decks

Rider-Waite
Witches Tarot
Legend of Arthur
Cosmic Tarot
Nefertari's
Vision Quest

I kept a notebook with my comparisons of the meanings of each card. For the most part they all follow the same basic meanings with a little variation. The only one that varied alot was the Witch's tarot on about 9 cards..I lost the booklet so I may be asking for some help there..in another thread.

I started out relying heavily on the books interpretations but towards the end I got good at interpreting the card itself, although I did check myself to the books:). It was alot of fun, athough I had to remind myself to stick with it.
