Ok
Bringing your practice into every activity of life...

what have y'all got to make cleaning a spiritual act?

I am thankful for my cleaning lady..is that spiritual? :p Probably not so much..~le sigh~

Ok, enough of my smart remarks..I think that shopping and cleaning with the seasons is a biggie for me, it makes me feel a 'part of the wheel' of the year. I buy apples in fall, and make apple butter...I scrub at the early winter and early spring all the house, floor to ceiling...I garden (obviously) with the seasons, and harvest and make potions seasonally too.

So far, I can get too spiritual about scrubbing a sink, or a toilet...loading the dishwasher also, less than edifying.

For the most part, I loathe housecleaning. Unless the mood hits me, I'm more than content to leave the job to my DH, who works from home and prefers to keep a much neater house than I'm capable of keeping.

That being said, there is some cleaning that is very spiritual for me. Wall-washing and floor washing in the fall and spring, as well as when moving into a new home are a must. I prefer to do that job myself since then I can use my own washing formula, which usually has vanvan or chinese floor wash, vinegar, orange and lime peels, salt, and/or any other natural cleansing product I've mixed up by the gallon. The simple act of scrubbing the dirt and smoke from the walls of a place is enough to make me feel cleaner from the inside out. And it tends to make a place smell better too.

After that, I try to mix a light fragrance powder in with my dust-mite powder for my carpets, and chant while I sprinkle it around all the rooms. (A little fine-grain salt in it too.)

Are you going for a specific end result with this, or just general cleansing?

I just thought since we spend so much time doing these sorts of tasks... finding the divine in them would be good for the soul... so be as specific or general as ya like.

I like to think a banishing song when I sweep.

"Go away way from my window, go away way from my door, go away way from my window, and bother me no more..."

lol I
m not sure it helps... but I think its good for mind and body to be on the same page.

anyone find themselves reciting Lady MacBeth's Soliliquy when the are scrubbing?

hehehe

"Go away way from my window, go away way from my door, go away way from my window, and bother me no more..." heheh I have one like that for when I sweep my floors physically and otherwise," Sweep sweep sweep away all the negativity that is in the house today ".... and I have another variation but i just pulled a blank I will have to see if I have it written in my BOS....

I think I chant more often like that when I'm stirring. Clockwise for foods, to imbue them with intent; counter-clockwise for soaps and doing the dishes, to scrub away the exhaustion and negativity.

I usually don't want to clean anything huge at least unless I'm in the mood. However, I find that lighting a white candle and adding a little chant before I start cleaning really helps the whole process.
