Sometimes I use this time to attempt to mediate or fail miserably at astral projection, lol. Do you just fantasize, go over the days events, or do something more pagany? I have a lot of trouble falling asleep and am looking for more constructive things to do then watch guitar hero in my head, lol.

I pray. No really...I do......

I pray: Dear Gods/Goddesses, let me actually GET some sleep tonight and please keep my pain at a minimal level so I can sleep.

LOL. True though.

I go over plans and ideas. Bed is the perfect place to work them out - no distractions, comfortable, quiet.

Random things. I have anxiety issues so sometimes my mind doesn't shut off and it cycles through a bunch of really odd stuff rapidly. Other times I think about what I have to do the next day or what is coming up. Anything. I pray sometimes too, but more often than not it's always random things.

if I'm having repeatiive uesless thoughts, I meditate, otherwise, i plan my tommarrow, think about the book I've just been reading, write poetry and then 'think of alec Baldwin"

lol

I pretty much always give myself a Reiki treat before i sleep (often falling asleep during), and if i have had a stressful day and replaying things over and over ill consciously focus on relaxing my body from the head down, also playing soothing music as i drift off helps.

My thoughts are very random most of the time... I tend to worry and try to work some things out while trying to get to sleep, so I always fall asleep pretty late once I've finally exhausted myself. Lately I've taken to sleeping in the astral company of my soulmate again and I've noticed that I fall asleep with less thoughts running around in my head if I seek him out on the astral plane.

It depends on the day - usually I think about the things I have to be thankful for, or I meditate and use the tree of life that hangs above our bed as a guide for it.

I think about my bf..then again i do that all the time anyway. If something durring the day has bugged me in some way i'll think about then...thats usually when it takes me forever to fall asleep...but it always comes back to my bf and wishing he was here with me, and asking the gods to watch over him and help him.

i have a very difficult time shutting off my racing thoughts...

so I usually fall asleep in the living room with the tv on so i can concentrate on what they're saying. it helps me relax. then i wake up at some weird hour and shuffle to bed.

I have a hard time, very hard time actually, quieting my mind. I have xm radio so I listen to the radio stories which shuts off the thoughts and I just listen. I also ground myself while lying on my back. Most times I fall asleep while doing this. Other times I manage to ground and fully relax then fall asleep.

I usually meditate or try to visualize myself in my "special " place.. it usually works....But
sometimes I just look behind my eyes and let my mind do as it will

I say my good-nights. I say good-night to myself, my family, my neighborhood, my bioregion, the planet, the solar system, the galaxy, and the Cosmos. I list good things I did during the day and say, "Today was a good day." Then I list bad things I've done during the day and say, "Tomorrow will be a better day."

That's the plan, anyway. In practice, it's probably only 2 nights out of every 5 that I get through it before I fall asleep.

I just let my mind wander so I can fall asleep instead of wondering if I'm ever going to fall asleep

I often pray when I go to bed or meditate, but not so I fall asleep. I intend to stay awake during that part ;)

And if the same thing keeps running through my head over and over or I'm anxious I write it down and tell myself "ok, now you can deal with it tomorrow". If I can't fall asleep I do deep breathing for awhile, it always helps me relax.

I try to calm my mind with reading until my eyes are drooping or book falls on my face. If I'm still thinking...I think about sex. I try to focus all my wandering thoughts into it... helps.

I have a hard time falling asleep if I am thinking about anything, so I usually read something unimportant till it falls out of my hands. Or I fall asleep on the couch petting my dog, or something like that.
or after sex when my mind is totally animal and my cerebral cortex is blissfully overpowered by the reptilian brain and chemistry.

I think sleep is the time where I dont worry about things, so I imagine beautiful landscapes or try to picture the other eight realms of my path's mythology.

I go to bed at a late hour, so I'm kind of already falling a sleep whilest I'm going to my bed. And then comes the most horrible thought ever to me, which is:'I have to get up in 6 hours'. And then I'm wide awake again... Then I realize I really need the sleep and I kind of visualise that I'm falling down thru the universe onto earths green energy. Kind of soothing :)

*Edit: fixed a type*

And then comes the most horrible thought ever to me, which is:'I have to get up in 6 hours'. And then I'm wide awake again...That happened to me the last time my friend was in town. We stayed up 'til 2 the morning he got in, and when I finally made it to bed, I spent so much time freaking out over the fact that I was only going to get 4 hours of sleep that I ended up only getting 3 and a half!

If I were in your place I would go entirely crazy!! 6 hours of sleep aren't enough for me but 3 and a half, then I'm a walking zombie, let alone when someone just says 'Hi' I almost explode just out of anger :aburst:

I usually have scenes from whatever book I'm reading at the time going through my mind. Which is great if it's a Laurell K. Hamilton novel and full of sex - not so great if it's a biography of a serial killer :T.

Usually its whatever happened during the day, maybe scenes from a movie I watched. (was interesting after I watched grudge 2) I have a vivid imagination and its like a hundred differnt movies of the days events playing in my head at once. So I try and block em out, ground, mediatate and usually pass out halfway through grounding.

Shouldn't be an issue when I am there hun ;)

I'll meditate before I go to sleep if I've had a bad, or tense day. Often I'll think about how tomorrow might be in such instances also.
I'm usually a big insomniac, but recently started sleeping more....but what I used to do to occupy time before I slept, was to write and read and just throw myself into books to pass the time.

Or go outside for a run to get rid of excess energy, if I had any.

I wish you luck finding a way to get some sleep, dearie. You could try catnip tea, or chammomile.

Three things usually work. The first, if I am almost getting to sleep but not quite - these rapid pictures race thru my head. I have no control over what I am seeing or where they come from - they just fly by, and before I know it I'm out for the count. The second is if I am tired, but sleep will not come I go thru the whole thing of taking my horse out of the stall, brushing him and cleaning his hoofs, and going thru the whole process of saddling him and finally getting into the saddle and riding off. Uusually I am asleep at the saddling part. The third when I know I just have to get to sleep, but I'm not tired at all - I count to 150. I don't know where I got the number from. I never make it to 150 - I'm asleep!:T

I either think of all the things going on throughout my day, arguments that I've been in in the past, balance my chakras.

I like to do logic puzzles till I'm dumbed down, or read books. Most of the time I just let reminiscent thoughts slowly spin into a hazy orbit that sets off the random channels of clairaudience which happen right before the pass off. A good approach (this is, if you haven't had any stimulants right before bed) is to lay there and say good night to each part of your body individually starting at your pinky toe, and working up to the crown chakra. You should start to feel heavy in the affected parts.

The biggest thing that some people forget to do is physically relax the body. You would be surprised at just how much tension you accumulate during a day. Another thing I do if all of the above fails, is to just mentally cruise the solar system to the Milky way, starting at Earth's orbit, and slowly drifting past the planets. I usually cannot get past Jupiter before I conk out.

I normally think about the book I'm reading at the time, practice Astral Projection, meditate, and other times I just let my mind run free (this either ends up with me asleep or keeps me even more awake because I drift to dark places I've been in my life and I get myself worried, etc. not good).

Counting sheep, NEVER worked for me :(

I normaly just listen to my boyfriend's heartbeat and feel his breath on my hair- im shorter then him so his chin rests on the top of my head. if its been a stressfull day and thats most commen as of the moment till we can move out of this place he will just talk to me. sometimes it will be random stuff, sometimes he will tell me bible stories that he knows I don't believe in, sometimes he will just find as many ways as he can to tell me it will be okay. If he had not moved in I would still be getting about 4 hours of sleep now I get six or seven. If for what ever reason he falls asleep first- normaly when he has been drinking for a extended amount of time I just ground myself and listen to his heart and breathing. Most of the time he will stay up with me no matter how drunk he is till i fall asleep. he hates it when i am up later then him. If all else fails he will just lay there with my head on his chest, my hand on his chest and his hand on mine and rub my ring finger. His way of telling me that he will put a ring there and that he will always be there.

- counting sheep always kept me awake never put me to sleep
