is anyone here from that area?

just how big is that fire, It was on the news, I live about 700 miles from Quebec...

The smoke from the fire has rode on the Jetstream and came through the philadelpiha area and it is here in my area, it is really creepy, it is like in the movies where in a dreamstate, this is thick!

the dry air and the jet stream is like a vacum pulling the smoke downwards....

Here at the Shore, we are all used to moist salty air, but with this smoke, it is soaking up all the moisture... 3 people here at work had to be sent to the medic becasue they were dizzy from the smokey air,

I'm not sure how big the fire is, but it's turned our skies here in Massachusetts a cloudy orange color for most of the day. (It's beginning to get sunny now). It's been eerie and unsettling.

I thought it was the woods behind my house at first, that is how strong the smell is...

I hope everyone of our Members that live in the area are ok,

make sure you drink water and plenty of it, and try not to breathe it in too much,

I saw that on the news. We had a similar problem with the folks east of the fires in AZ, I spoke with someone in New Mexico who reported they had smoke from the CO and AZ fires in their town. They are already reporting fish deaths from the ashes too. :(

here is the latest

Special weather statement
National Weather Service Mount Holly nj
545 PM EDT Sun Jul 7 2002

...The smoke should finally clear by late Monday morning...

Smoke from Forest fires up in Quebec continues to affect Eastern
Pennsylvania...New Jersey...Delaware and northeastern Maryland. The
smoke has been obscuring the Sky and reducing the visibility
throughout the region since Saturday afternoon. Also...There has
been a persistent odor of burning Wood.

The last significant smoke plume that is expected to affect our
region was overhead this afternoon.

A Northwest to West wind should Result in some improvement into this
evening. However...The wind is expected to become light and
variable tonight. As a Result...Whatever smoke is lingering in the
region by 10 or 11 PM will likely remain with us overnight. A West
to Southwest wind is forecast to develop on Monday morning pushing
the last of the smoke and haze out of our region at that time.

:(

they just showed on the 10 o clock news some pics of the Ontario skyline, it looked eerie!!

I know there are alot of Canadians here, lets here from you, just let us know that you are all ok, there is just an air quality advisory basicly from Quebec, to ontario, to NY , eastern Pa,
and from Massachusetts all the way down to Washington DC...

please make sure you drink plenty of water, especially if you are used to the moist air, the smoke is soaking up all of the moisture in the air and makeing it thin....

they say the smoke is supposed to go up to the northeast as the jetstream changes....

OMG! :(

I haven't been watching the news a lot lately and this is news to me.

Last year the air was hazy here from a fire a long ways away (I'm not sure from where though. :dis: )

I live right across the river from where the fires in Quebec are burning...the smoke here yesterday was so stifling that we all spent the day inside. The sky was so hazy with smoke that it was like being in Toronto in the middle of rush hour in July!!

Sorry, have a correction, apparently what me and my roomie thought was people barbequing on Saturday and Sunday, was indeed the fires...

(you think the fact we smelled it at 8am would have let us wonder what people are doing cooking at that time!)

Sunday morning, Here in Rhode Island, John and I awoke to a bright yellow sky...I hate to say it, but all I can compare it to...it was..sort of urine colored. Meanwhile, the Sun was BRIGHT orange. John felt it was very ominous, and I kept thinking something bad was going to happen at his grandmothers wake. Then we got on the road to drive to the wake, and all the way up, there was a thick haze. I thought it was extreme humidity. John just said he didn't know WHAT it was. You could smell it though. Finally, at the wake, someone told us what happened, they pointed to the sun, which was rapidly sinking. It was still..bright orange. Very eerie.

I live on the south shore of Montreal, in Quebec, and it was freaky, I mean, the sun was accually orange and you couldn't see anything in the sky except clouds, I could look at the sun without being blinded... and there was this really weird eerie feeling when you were outside... it was just scary!

well the air is a bit clearer today, but the ocean looks like a scene out of the mysts of avalon, really ominous ,

the bluegrey waters have a mild blanket of myst over them and the fog, it is beautiful with the sunlight :)

I'm on Long Island and I was looking up in the sky on July 4th and mentioning to everyone around me, look how weird the sun looks! Now I finally know why it looked that way and why it seemed extra hazy the past couple of days.
I hope everyone is ok up there.
what started the fire?

That's what it looked like here last year. A friend of mine told me to check it out - it really looked like a postcard from Hawaii or something; nothing like what we're used to.

I found this story on Y! news; although it doesn't say what started the fires. :dis:

I live near the Quebec border (about half an hour away from Raevyn) and the smoke was miserable on the weekend. Our weather forcast said "Smoke." Not haze or smog, "smoke." You don't see that too often. :O

But the jet stream has taken it away to the East. Raevyn and I are just to the west of the Quebec border. I hope everyone is surviving if your area is effected.
