I'm not sure what the brand names are.. but there is
a capsule that has red-pepper extract in it, suprisingly, or not suprisingly, enough it doesn't give you indigestion or at least my friend never got indigestion from it.
I've since lost contact with her but she SWORE by them.
They did more for her than tylenol or any pain-reliever did of that type.

It would probably read "capsaicin" extract (or something like that.. not sure of the spelling). There's also a capsaicin rub out there on the market for aching muscles which I've used.. but it gets REALLY hot after a while.. but it works if you can stand the burning. I'm a Certified Nurse aide and this profession is known for back problems and muscle aches. I pulled a muscle a while back lifting a resident and capsaicin rub really helped. Definately use the rub with great care and moderation.

The capsule/pill however is not like that. It may effect others differently, but my friend said it wasn't hot when she took it, and it wasn't hot later..

Another cure my dad always used was to roll up a pillow and stick it under your neck so that it is supported and the muscles stretch out and relax.

Hmm...I always thought caffeine helped by opening things up in your head...And I know for a fact hot stuff helps. Especially for sinus headaches.

I was reading the posts on this thread and didn't see anyone suggest Feverfew. Feverfew is specific for migraines but is worth a try on tension headaches. Some say to take it every day, but I dont take ANYTHING everyday, I recommend chewing half a fresh leaf and holding it under your tongue for a few minutes. It tastes like a chewed up aspirin, ugh.

For pain that is really unbearable I always take Valerian. It relaxes the nerves and eases most tension related pain. Years ago I had to buy the dried roots and make tea, it is so terrrible tasting I never took it unless the pain in my head matched the terrible taste. Now you can get Valerian in capsules, the bottle still smells bad but you can get them down easier.

I hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that after reading about the caffine intake parts of this thread I stopped drinking soda. Since then all of my pains have gone away. Not just my headaches, but muscle aches and my sinus' have cleared up as well.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well only if the human body was perfect wouldn't that be wonderful? well it isn't... and we can get quite uncomoftable at times I have found some mixes that work good for me....

For Headaches- I will usually use one of the three

Peppermint gum , nothing beats that stress better<g>

Eucalytus, Chamomile & lavender lotion, that cool refreshing scent is just a balm to the senses man!!

Gas, or indigestion
chamomile all the way<g>

Can't sleep chamomile.

Flu or just generally sick?
Cayenne and garlic, preferable in gelcaps taken internally, whats best is it is hard as hell to get to much!

Well thats all for now!

Would agree with Feverfew (this can be bought in tablet form) But if you want to eat the leaves, then I would suggest that you put them on a sandwich with something else (nice). Or make a tea with the dried leaves add honey.

I guess I'm just wierd. For headaches I listen to music in a dark room with a cold wet washcloth over my forhead and eyes. The music relaxes me easing the tension and I find the cold washcloth soothing along with the dark. It even works for my milder migrains for my really bad ones I cheat Vicodan is my friend but I only take it when the pain has me crying. Normally I can stop it before it hits that point though.

1 drop Peppermint oil diluted in 1 teaspoon vegetable oil rubbed on the back of the neck helps relieve headaches (:

I agree with Lynnaea. I also add a small amount of Lavender oil to my temples before lying down for the evening slumber.

I have started to become sucessful at driving away headaches. I use an impromptu meditation ritual which takes all of about 30 seconds. And really consists of only breathing in and out slowly and envisioning the headache seeping out slowly into the air...

One I have something that works for Me every time...I will share.

I do something similar to the 30 second meditation that Mol was speaking of. I just lie back in a comfortable postion in the dark and just let the pain seep out. For when the pain is really bad, I keep a black cloth that is charged wtih healing energy that I lay over my eyes and forehead to help draw the pain out of my head and into the cloth. Then I wash the cloth out under cold running water to cleanse it of the pain and "re-charge" it for the next time I need it.

A remedy I use for my sinus headaches (which are frequent): 1 ounce of tomato juice or V8(I like the V8 for the extra vitamins), 1/8 teaspoon Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper and a dash of black pepper. This will burn you up, so keep a tall glass of water or milk nearby to cool you down. Milk works best. You'll feel like your head is on fire for about a minute, but you can tell an immediate difference. But then again, if I'm out and can't make my home remedy, I keep a couple of packets of hot mustard from the Chinese resturant in my purse for emergencies. Again, this burns like crazy, but it works.

Merry Meet, Mol -

I use breathing techniques for many facets of my life, such as in the Qi Gong I teach, Yoga I do at home, running and even when my emotions become out of sink (angry or worried . . .)

Breathing techniques are very easy and soothing. I know when you have a raging headache sometimes it may be difficult to concentrate. I, like Mol, will use a technique of breathing exclusively through the nose. I'll put my finger on the right side of my nose to block off that nostril and breathe slowly and deeply through the left nostril. When I am ready to exhale, I hold the left nostril, breathe out the right, then slowly begin to breathe in again through the right. Release, hold the right side, exhale out the left, and so on. It works for me. This type of breathing helps balance out the oxygen in the brain. (Actually, most deep breathing will do that! What a goof I am sometimes! LOL)

This may not be for everyone. Some people have problems with their septums and what not. But, if it sounds like something any of you are willing to try, be my guest! Happy breathing - and hopefully no headaches!! That is the goal.

Blessings . . .

The meditation method I use is to stand in a warm shower and you close your eyes. Allow the warm water to relax your muscles now step back and let the water cascade over your head then when you relax let the worried slowly start to flow away with the water picture the water runs thru you and out thru your feet. With the tension gone usually this releaves any headache.

But for migraines I use Belladonna I suggest sublingual
(under your tongue) and never tried to make it myself seems to dangerous to mess with so I get it at the health food store its with the homeopathic stuff and is all natural

just a thought before running to the doctor for narcotic pain killers i.e. vicodin, percocet..... narcotics while temporarily relieving your headaches, will also induce them when the drug wears off. i'll have to say my fav for headaches is a fatty cup of chamomile, kava kava, and valerian tea. mixed with a candle-lit, warm bath w/ a little lavander in the oil burner seems to do it every time!

I hate the beastly things but I still get them. :(

When I have the aura symptoms, I try to avoid flourescent lights (because they're a trigger for some of mine) and I'll usually take some asprin. I don't have the means to make my own willow teas. <shrugs> Some day when I have a garden of my own.... :) I'll also drink a glass of soda or a cup of tea. The caffiene makes the heart beat a bit faster and helps to speed the asprin along it's way. But I need to do that when I first have the aura symptoms.

If the aura symptoms don't go away or they get worse, I will usually go some where that's dark and sleep fora while. Some times I'll use a cool cloth with some lavender oil on it over my eyes. It helps with the beginning symptoms of the migraine. But when the migraine itself hits, I usually play meditation music and take a nap. I think that the meditation music helps because it will help me go into a light trance before I fall asleep, which helps me to dissociate from the pain.

<scratches her head trying to remember the other things she does for her headaches>

For my sinus headaches, I usually do a steam treatment with a little mint oil in the water. It helps, even though it makes them drain something horrid afterwards.

The problem with caffine and headaches is that caffine constricts your blood vessels, but then when the caffine wears off, they dialate which can cause a terrible headache...this is sort of like a rebound headache...

That is why when you are a coffee addict (like me) when you first go a few days without caffine, you suffer terrible headaches...but they go away in a few days...

I used to get terrible migraines and found that 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise cleared them up completely... I no long suffer from headaches of any kind...well as long as I don't stop drinking coffee!

Cheers
