Just starting a new topic... I think :)

from welcome new members

Wow, I have actually received 'hate' mail for my post above... that did not take long.

I have no way to know if the mailer was a member or passerby, so I will post the basics for those of you who were confused by my post as well.

Here are a few points of the email and my thoughts on them.

1) You are not a Wiccan, if there is such a thing. Modern Wicca is a joke!

I think that is what I said. Our parents thought it best to "adapt" our tradition into modern religion. Wicca (23 years ago) was the one which most fit our way. We do not believe in religion per se, to us, religion is the joke. We persue spirituality, and leave it at that. Wicca provided us the means to communicate with other like minds, as does any religion in theory. Our elders wanted to make a medium in which we could share our way with others...

2) Secrecy? What a load of smoke and mirrors bull &%$@, get a clue!

I use the term "secrecy" loosely. I do not mean we are some secret society, sworn to keep our ways from other. In our tradition, spiritual endeavors are personal and kept as such. "Spells" and rituals should not be shared with others. They are for us, and though may be used in teaching, should only be for reference. Trading spells over the net and in books like they were baseball cards is not our way.

3) "...done to OUR religion? It is not YOUR religion as@&$#&!

We think religion is a medium for expession and sharing, nothing more. See above...

4) Scott Cunningham, Ravenwolf and the like only feed the "fluffy bunny" attitude of "witchcraft!"

Fluffy bunny? I like that term and agree.

5) Underlying meaning for us to figure out? ooooh, you are so mysterious. what a load of crap!!!!

Yes, I agree the "mystery" cloak worn by many to hide their lack of knowlegde is a load of crap. It was not my intent for the statement to sound that way.

I hope this brings a little clearity to what was said in my post. It appears I have scared many away (no one else bothered to post here), and that was not my intent. I was being open...

Eaglewolf,
Sorry to hear someone has used this forum as a means for lashing out at you. That is not what we are about here. Perhaps they knew that... or they would have posted publicly. Feel free to pass on their email address to Mol so that they may be removed from the boards. Or maybe you think we can educate them...then invite them to post their views here. Anyhow.. it is your call and you do not have to put up with it. I know you are one of the folks in our community who could best handle this situation though. I just hope it doesn't become routine for our users to be attacked.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, I just wanted to take the opportunity to clear up a few things in my post... that's all.

No need to "educate" them, personal opinion often has little to do with education. To each their own...

Attacking my "beliefs" is not like attacking me. I do not take this personally.

Thanks for the support though, it is greatly apprecitated.

Well, no hate mail here..of course, how would I know...my mail has been down ALL DAY!@!

Oh, well..sorry you got flamed. But, it goes with the territory. Hopefully that person will come back and express their view in the forum created for it. I am sure we could have gotten something out of it...and as it stands. Its only a flame. Pity.

Love and Light to all! Only 5 for members and we will break the 100 mark! Congrats to the whole community for making this such a wonderful place!

Blessed Be!

Sorry to hear you got flamed eaglewolf but, as usual you come off as the better one. That was a cowardly and mean thing foir that person to do. Especially seeing as how they cant obviously know you..otherwise they would have known the intent in your post to begin with. I havent known you long but, in the short time I have, I think your a good person with good thoughts. this to keep you cool on summer nights..teeeheee

EW i don't understand I guess
you don't care for Scott Cunningham as a writer or you don't believe what he writes? This is the way I found wicca. I was raised Baptist and was thrown out of the church when I was 16 for asking how he knew he was in the right religion I still have the letter in the bible that was a gift from the elders of the church for graduating high school it is zipped in the leather cover and never has been reopened! When I was 20 I met a man on the CB radio (my exhusband and I drove truck) he gave me my first book called the wiccan path I have read this book I know 30 times and researched it and other wiccan books before entering my circle a year ago. It was a 17 year study and wasn't easy for the fact my mother is a borne witch and her parent and their parents but my father and his family are not my mother is also baptist and everytime I spoke of wicca she freaked out and talked about satanism. I was a closet solitary until a year ago and now my mom has started reading and understanding wicca so tell me please what have I done wrong this time Sherry

Sherry,

Things have become a bit confusing with all of the transfered posts, but let me clarify a bit...

"Fluffy bunny" is not my term, it was stated to me in an email I received. Though I do somewhat agree with what the term "represents."

I often refer people to Cunninghams work, but not necessarily for his views on Wicca. He has much to offer by way of Magickal knowledge, and I believe he was a great contribution to the community. He is missed...

But, I do not necessarily agree with the "all is a fine and dandy bed of roses" outlook Scott and others have conveyed in their literary works.

Every Wiccan I know who actually views Wicca as portrayed in these newer works started out with these books, or have never read anything else. I often find it distressing that these authors were lucky enough to reach so many with their "Magick is all about love" philosophy, while the "truth about Wicca" goes untaught.

Love and Light is all good, and those who live by this "rule" are a great, and much needed service to Wicca, as long as they understand it and it is THEIR view, not a planted one.

Our tradition realizes Light cannot be without Dark. Instead of ignoring negativity, or aboloshing it, we embrace it as a friend.

Life, and Wicca, is not without pain and negativity. Through the Dark, we learn and grow stronger... it is necessary for our spiritual growth and very welcome.

Another great post and a great insight ew. I, as you know, am not Wiccan...but I do follow a Path of Love and Light. This is the Path I chose and was never planted (although I understand your meaning.)

I also agree with you view of darkness. And, depending on my mood, I acknowledge the darkness in All. And in me. Perhaps this is wrong. Maybe I should acknowledge it a bit more than now, because I am hardly ever in a dark mood anymore.

Ah, I am rambling. I just woke up and things are a bit hazy...Heh. :)

You do not have to be in a dark mood to embrace the "dark."

Keep in mind, a plant dying (to continue the cirle of life) can, and should, be considered dark. Most people (now a days) would just say it is a positive part of nature. To this I say, true! But it is a positive "dark" part of nature, hoping to convey the importance of negativity in our lives...

...keep your moods good, it reduces stress... stress kills!

:D

Right. And remember The Void we all go to when our body dies ~ and the womb from which we're all born. Both very Dark places! But without them, we'd not have this life.

Correctomundo! It's all in perspective, and no one has the same perspective as another.
