I just found this forum (you know it's easy to get lost for days at MW!) ;)
and I'm so happy to find fellow homeschoolers! :abanana:
We've been homeschooling for almost 5 years now and I wouldn't have it any other way! It's been the best thing we have ever done as a family and I love spending all our days together. :loveduv:

Yay, I found a thread by you in a forum I only recently discovered :D
It rocks.
Hiyo *waves* as you're already aware, I'm a homeschooled kid! I'm happy to find other homeschoolers too!

So WildThing, tell me about your homeschooling experience (if you want!). What kind of homeschooling did you guys do? Unschooling? Eclectic? School at home? Do you live in a strict state? Were you involved in any homeschooling groups and are your parents pagan like you?
Sorry for bombarding you! I love to meet other homeschoolers, there's a big diversity among us too. My kids are 7, 12, & 13 and we belong to a secular homeschool group. I don't think I would have survived without it! We are in a very conservative area and would have been very isolated without our little group! :)

*smiles* Wow, alot of questions. It's no worries, I'll try to answer.
No, we did school at home. We went to local group events sometimes, but not very often. Not really apart of group-groups.
My parents...well, Dad's very christian, but unorthadox, and Mom is just...well, whatever suits her with slight pagan and christian leanings (she's weird, but she's the one who convinced Dad that me being pagan was an okay thing..especially after I explained it all).
Anyway, education wise, Mom was my teacher til I was eleven, and Dad's still my kid brother's teacher because he's stubborn and tries to get away with doing no work at all. He can be a bit of a rotten egg.
Anyway once I was eleven, I was teaching myself, that is, I did papers, and tests..and Mom would grade my stuff. But I didn't need her to hover and watch me and answer questions anymore..especially since that was about when I discovered the internet. So I could research what I was learning before the tests =)
Anyway, up until now, our state didn't really care that we were homeschoolers, and overall people were pretty cool about it. Recently the school system's been harping at us 'cause we've recently had to put my education on hold due to bills (temporary and easily..well manageably fixed, but the school system seems to care more now that I'm a few years away from college...which I hope to do this year. Which if I pass the test, which is part of the bills, I will finally get to see if I can..and there's only a couple more grades to pass..so I'd be really close to graduating if not that).
My family kinda was isolated, but we knew one other family, and we met plenty of people traveling around to flea markets (and occasionally selling at them), but we were isolated more because we lived in a very rural area up til now =)
Which I didn't mind, really. I played with the neighbor kids, with my little brother. And I've always kinda been a bit of a loner anyway.
(It's only this year that I'm making more of an effort to be social...and I'm not stunted like some people claim, I just am not really a people person, I much prefer animals -- I don't hate people, it's just I don't always wanna be around them.)
But yeah, I've quite enjoyed my education so far, I've never been in a public school. I've been homeschooled since Kindergarten ^_^

That's wonderful! My daughter, who is 7, has never been in school. My boys went thru 1st & 2nd grade, that's when I pulled them out and decided to take the plunge!
I'm glad your Mom was accepting of your beliefs and helped your Dad see too! I'm sure you will do well on the testing, you sound like you've had a great education so far! :)

Welcome Treegoddess! We met on the other thread when I asked how old your kids are. I suppose I should introduce myself! My kids are a 14 yr old daughter, an 11 year old son and a 7 year old son. None of them have ever attended school, nor do they want to at this point. We are radical unschoolers.

So long as we are introducing ourselves.
I homeschool two, an 11 year old and an 8 year old and we are very eclectic with our studies. My 11 year old went to school through the third grade and the younger went to school through the middle of second.

Hello! Hello!
It's interesting that we all have older kids, I usually run into lots of homeschoolers with younger children!
We are what most would call eclectic, but some see me as an unschooler b/c we don't spend tons of time sitting around doing schoolwork. Meh, we don't fit into many labels well! :p I unschooled for the first few years when I took the boys out of school, but in the past year or two we have added in more schoolish stuff as they have gotten older. It works for us. :)
Nice to meet you all!
