I know there aren't a lot of stories on ghost animals, some people might even say it's your totem and in many cases it might be, or it might be a residual haunting. But I've seen one once, a headless dog that rushed right past me at Venice Beach. It was close enough for me to bend down and touch it. Why do you think ghost animals would stay around? Wouldn't it be easier for them to leave this plane and be recycle or reincarnated or go to wherever they are gonna go then people? What's your theories on this?

Perhaps ghost animals are so attached to the family or place they once lived in that they find it hard to let go completely. :) Most animals, however, don't seem to have the amount of emotional/mental baggage humans have... so I guess that is why ghost animals are pretty rare.

I think in many ways animals are back drops to our society so a great many people don't see them in real life. OH yes they see the animal they are afraid of but they don't see the bulk of animals they pass everyday.
I believe that is why the sightings of animal ghost are limited.
Thier are stories of animal ghost that have remained until the bones of their master are buried or the family they watched over are given a proper burial.
My step aunt told me of a black and white dog that was a ghost that always came around when a death was going to happen in our family. It would just show up and sit on the porch from what she said.
Their is a story from southwest Virginia about a ghost dog that guarded a mountain pass and would jump out at travellers. Most ran away scared but one followed the ghost dog and found the bones of its master. Once the bones were removed and buried the ghost dog vanished never to be seen again.
I tend to think most of us think of Dogs when we ponder animal ghosts. Yet thier are stories of Horses that are seen on battle fields or military campsites. Stories of cattle and horsedrawn wagons. I didn't see it but I sure heard it. Granted these are tied to human ghost but I think it's a total picture.
I hope this makes sense and is readable. I'm home sick and seeing double on things so I'm not sure it's right or not.
