Hi all
I am currently doing a law degree (In England that is) and
this week I am looking at surrogacy and adoption. In this country all commercial surrogacy and adoption agreements
are illegal and subject to terms of imprisonment for
the organisers (not the surrogate mother or commissioning
couple). I wondered what the situation was like in the
U.S and what people thought. Especially with the
twins bought over the internet case.

I am not sure about the legal aspects, but I do often see ads in papers for couples who are looking to adopt. We have ads on T.V. for people who may be involved in an unwanted pregnancy and it gives them adoption info and numbers to call. I am not sure if this is what you mean or not. No I personally don't think that children should be bartered for oniline or elsewhere. I don't think adoption should be about who can pay for the process. There are plenty of children who do need a good home. I certainly have no respect for those few people who get pregnant and decide they can make some cash off of it.
Also I think there should be more cases of samesex parents adopting successfully. They should be investigated just like "normal" couples and then allowed to have the opportunity. I do have some online friends who were able to adopt a small girl only because she had AIDS. Of course that is not what the authorities said...they just couldn't find a more suitable home and so these two gentleman who had been her foster parents were able to adopt her. No matter the reasons for the way it turned out, it was the best situation for all. They had a wonderful family and she was able to live in an envirinment of unconditional love for the rest of her short life. It was a life saved in value if not in years. Any these two men will never forget the gift they recieved.
