Namaste all.

I just had a dream that really shook me up, about Kali Ma, and another deity. I was living in this house with several other people who I didn't even know (not sure why), and in the dream I had an altar for Kali in a room located upstairs. Well, I'd gone downstairs for a bit, when out of the basement window, I could see this floating head with red skin, and a terrifying face staring right at me. It suddenly made this piercing shriek, and I ran upstairs in terror. As I ran I heard a voice telling me that this head was another form of Kali, and I needed to move my altar downstairs in order to properly worship her. However, I was too afraid to trust this voice, and I simply ran upstairs to my altar where I prayed to Ma for help, and just like that Kali appeared before me in all her glory. I hugged in her feet in fear of this other deity, while Ma comforted me.

Eventually I decided to try moving my altar downstairs, but I woke up before I had a chance to do this.

Anyone know who is frightening deity might be?

Usually dreams that have "outside" beings (anybody or anything besides yourself) represents YOU. Perhaps this shrieking goddess had something to do with how you feel about yourself in relation to your deitie(s).

Since you feel you have to move your alter lower in your home, perhaps the meaning has something to do with having to delve deeper into your consciousness (into the lower realms of humanity: physical, sensual, emotional) to experience what it is that, technically, you are trying to tell yourself: or perhaps your diety. Mythology of Kali tells of her violent sprees settled by Shiva's childlike submission, which humbles her: Seems pretty emotional to me, wouldn't you say so?

errr didn't you just say that the voice said that this was another version of Kali Ma? Not trying to be snarky or rude, I'm just confused.

You see though Lalita,Tara, Durga etc. are all technically other forms of Kali (or vice versa in some traditions) they're still other deities in their own right. Likewise I'm sure this goddess is also like this.

Kinda hard to apply this for sure- there really are no universal interpretations for dreams regardless of what the "dream dictionaries" say and for the hard polytheist, having a deity show up in a dream is generally NOT taken as a representation of the self.

At the same time though, in Hinduism theres little room for hard polytheism because there's just tooo many aspects for individual Gods...and they're not all technically seperate deities, they're all linked somehow.

I'm not too sure about that. The largest Hindu sects tend to regard all the individual deities, as just being aspects of a larger divinity, but certain schools like Madhva Vaishnavism might be considered borderline polytheistic (though one could argue that the lesser deities are more like angels then gods).

Anyways, I've been thinking this deity might be Chhinnamasta, though she holds her severed head, as opposed to it just floating around in the air. At the moment I've become more interested with Kali appearing to me in the dream. Recently I've become more drawn towards Krishna/Rama worship and Vaishnavism, where as I used to be more into Shaivism and Shaktism. Perhaps Kali is trying to call me back to Shaktism?
