February 10th, 2008, 06:09 PM
Even though I am not a forum guide anymore for this forum, I would still like to see the contests resume. So if anyone is interested please post an original piece of work here in this thread. I will give till the end of February before we get a poll set up for voting.

And for this time around there will be no theme, I repeat no theme :) Look forward to seeing some of the old contest posters again and some new blood in the forum. :hehehehe:

In The Blink Of An Eye
A single second, where so much can happen,
Just in the blink of an eye,
A snowflake melts on the tongue,
A raindrop is overwhelmed by the ocean,
Someone breathes their first breath,
And another’s heart beats for the last time,
A footstep is made in sand,
While a wave crashes against the shore,
Something wins, something loses,
A predator catches its prey,
An innocent falls in love,
Fires burn or are extinguished,
But all these moments last a lifetime,
Compared to a single kiss from you

Alright... (cracks knuckles) I'm writing somthing on the fly here so don't critique me too harshly kay! _inabox_

The Lonely Star

The sky was soft as milky dew;
Upon the grass I lay;
Where ere the stars above me drew;
The golden light of day;

Upon the grass of sweetest scent;
Upon the dreamy mist;
My mind did wander totter went;
To musings of my kissed;

I gazed above my lonely star;
It shone it's eyes so cold;
My love perhaps a yonder far;
My thoughts of those of old;

Upon the grass I hear the crow;
Amidst the evening dew;
And who she was I'll never know;
A love I never knew.

_inabox_ ...kay....I'm gonna go hide now. (blushes and shuffles off stage)

Another blooming forth with the destruction of a sun too busy desiccating.
I’m stuck in this desert, walls of sand endless.
Been far too long since I saw that dream.
That shade of green.
She was lost to me as I was born in the abundant population of torn reality.
Amongst the stars, within the eye.
Yet slowly, I still die.
Without out a second thought…
Maybe I should’ve listened to what I was taught.
Yet late, far too late.
Further in I devote myself to the cause.
Yet I know not what it is.
Inside of these prison walls.
I fall down.
Letting my knees droop.
Anxiousness, nervousness, sets in.
This tortured soul cannot grin.
As I’m hinting, oh so hinting at.
The madness deep within
Falling endlessly in chasms of feral chagrin.
As they walk betwixt the stone and cell.
Compel in speech I do not seldom tell.
My time is up, the noose awaiting.
There be many things that I do not feel.
The hate, the anger, all of my rage absent.
I now understand that my fragile mind is compensating.
Yet far from over is this last appeal.
Though they do not care- now being done digging my plot.
I whisper my last breath as the sands of time encapsulate.

My bad, I'm ever fond of green, and sometimes am prone to typing my "prose" in that color.

A dream that is all it will ever be
a dream

One that I will never fulfill
or even be able to attempt to start

Slowly my physical limitation is
taking first place
and no longer can I give chase

I try to stand up
take one small step forward
and I fall to the floor
I cannot move or grab onto anything
to pull myself up
I have no feeling or control

My tears flow so easily
when reality smacks me in the face
like this

It is a wake up call
that I no longer can ignore
the thought of losing my independence
scares me
but I know my pride has to go
and I need help

===
Blah I am out of practice..... the ending I know is odd but I cannot think of any other way to end it.

I'm joining in, if that's okay with you. :smile:

Rays of Hope

Horizons of fate fall
under new beginnings
and the world will change
by taking one single step

Have you got the heart
to look into my eyes?

Connections of souls
speak of lives once lost
while the blink of an eye
is lost in the sands of time

Have you got the mind
to recognise the golden path?

Caring for the new road
I take you back to the past
of your new future and history
so raise your head in a new age

Have you got the mirror-soul
to reflect yourself inside of me?

I thought I'd post this one since it was partly inspired by my favorite art piece by our lovely RavensEye :hugz:

Mute

Eyes of a sorrowful gaze
The mouthless girl hitches a ride
Her lips frozen, a non-existent blur
No man has called her name in days
Since the day her sweetheart lied
Stolen away the coquettish demure
Purse in her smile,
and her wide eyes still remain
To see the thief further fake
The innocent stare to beguile
At first, fallacies left behind the stain
Though he knew what was at stake.

She'd cried before, "My heart be yours
For a kiss," which inebriated taken
and then silence met cold
Other women he knew by the scores
Stunned, reviled, her desires shaken
and cut her tongue away when she told
Him, she truly loved another-
A secret her mouth had burned
Into the veins of her lips
Inherited from her mother,
The love known to all, she learned
As she scratched it off with her fingertips.

Warrior Remembers

From the last of battles I slowly ride,
deadly wounds bleed on my side.
Long the road, exhausted I am
reaching your hearth you earthly man.
I place my tired sword now down,
to give it rest and shine the brown
stains of battle and cries and hate.
Heave it all aside and only will take
the memories that in times to come
shall bring me this time back and some
of the other lives of past as well
oh, now not time in them to dwell.
Let me rest o' memories of lives,
that were all mine, I have no cries,
regrets or wishes of not to do's.
All that I did was faith, that whose
hand somehow always guided me.
Never mind it at times wasn't the
best of solutions to heal the ill,
or wasn't the worst of men to kill.
It nevertheless was the best of moment.
Oh yes I did someplaces do my lament,
of brothers and sisters of kin whom I lost
left behind, at too high a cost.
Now standing alone on this high hill
wishing only to see my last of will
to reach it's rightfull place
to get my deserved grace.
I have asked nothing in return,
all these lives, much I have learnth.
All the knowledge now I place in your hands
do use it well to care for all the lands.
Regardless the color of men there dwell
or beasts that at nights come to thy well.
One land it is all under same shining sun
not a place to demand and call it one.
One moon at nights will glimmer over it all.
Know that's the same moon that others call
in their sermons of faith, that differ from yours.
Still, the same are the beginnings of all of ours.
My path has finally reached it's end
now it is time for you too to tend
to all this land that we all live in.
Do not let ingorance weave within.
Call thy neighbor truly thy brother,
do not judge by skin or by color.
I hail the winds to give these words to you all,
raise my sword up high once more, I shall call,
to bless you all, and the lands of all men.
Then return I shall to my shadowy glen,
sit down and call my memories and smiles.
Warrior remembers, then silently cries....

(C) The Cheetah
Tear drops run down
From her eyes.
Coat of sun,
and night, and clouds.

Crouching, stalking
So silently,
A small, swift
Thompson’s Gazelle.

Carefully, cautiously,
Does she wait,
Taking distance
Within her sights.

Waiting for the right
Time to spring,
On a swift
And deadly flight.

Stretching gracefully
Across the plains
Stealth hunter,
You are the spirit of speed!

Run and trip
Is the trick of her trade.
For a great and
desirous need!

Sub Rosa

Daughter of the Gods step forth from the flames
Unbridled passions set fire to the night
Upon your face mischievous grin
Hands caress her alabaster skin
Emanating the glow of moonlight
We dance within our sacred grove
Dance beneath the blood red Rose
Where ecstasy and madness unite
Beneath the Rose we lose our clothes
Minds and our lives
We fill the air with soft laughter
As our bodies intertwine
Sacred marriage of Spirit and Soul
Those ruby lips, a final kiss
Before we sink into the Divine

The blood of the Rose flows over all things

Here's my offering. Sorry it took so long to get here.

All Too Soon

As I sit and stare through broken glass,
I gaze out at the frosted grass -
at its crystalline perfection in the light of the moon.
I can't help but wonder...why so soon?

All too soon it is wiped away
by the coming of a brand new day.
What was once so clear on a moonlit night
so quickly cleared by the sun so bright.

The moon and its knowledge so clear
helps me to understand those I hold dear.
But, the sun and its burning heat
sweeps that knowledge from under my feet.

What once was all so clear to me -
the words of the goddess that set me free
from this place that seems like hell,
the darkness in which I do dwell.

That light in the dark that is so bright -
much greated than any 'redeeming light'.
The words that appear in its glorious beam,
to most it seems naught but a dream.

But when morning comes - so soon!
And the frost disperses with the gathering gloom,
chased away by the rays of sun.
Leaving no sign of the night - but one.

I, who was here to witness it all.
How quickly the purity of darkness did fall
to ferocity of the sun so bright.
Bringing the end to frost, moon and night.

It’s Just A Feeling I Get

It’s one of those moments where you walk
into a job opportunity and out with a back
ache that feels more like a giraffe riding
you than any sort of ape. No, it’s the moment
where you ask your mom what kind of things
Dad’s been eating lately, and she tells you
not to worry, and to keep your eyes on the road,
so you do. Or at least you say you do. You don’t
know what happened because soon you’re at Goodwill
and you’re smacking around old people,
trying to get them to put the pennies back in the jar.
It’s one of those moments where you reach
your arm out and clothesline that annoying
guy who thinks wearing Speedos is sexy
and he’s standing on the pedals pushing down fast
to mount that hill and his ass is in your face
as he rides past you and you try not to look,
but you’re a deer that doesn’t know
what those incoming lights
are really all about.

It’s one of those moments when a girl in a skirt
so short it’d be a fifty word essay saunters
past you, and you turn your head pretending
it wasn’t her bright blue, high quality thread
that made you love whiplash
and the way the chiropractor will break you.
It’s one of those moments where you think
that maybe, if that guy who sang about sex
and candy hadn’t shot himself in your backyard
when you were just trying to build a sand
castle, maybe then you wouldn’t want to build
castles on Hawaiian beaches
so black they’ll never turn red.
It’s one of those moments where you’re
barreling down the highway and slamming
Twinkies in your mouth wondering
what galactic entity is going to burst out of your chest
because last night you and a friend watched Alien
and your buddy said Sigourney Weaver’s hot,
and you point out that she’s really a man.
It’s the moment when the silence grows
thick like tar in the cab of your truck.

'Tis me pleasure , not to be measured , this I canst deny ,
and we shall see , more poetry , in the bye and bye...:lol:...

Listen not to the murmurings of time,
Measure not each moment by the clock
It matters not that the days pass you by

See not the mundane gray of your day
Perceive not the limits imposed by obligation
Look not to the past as if it is gone forever

Feel not that you are almost past the best
Touch not the things laid by before
Trace not the erosions of age

Listen to love’s soft whispers in your soul
Measure your time by the beat of your heart
It matters to me that you have a tomorrow

See me in the true colours of your life
Perceive the freedoms that you can enjoy
Look to the past as an always-present friend

Feel that the best is now and this very moment
Touch all the riches that are within your reach
Trace the qualities that living has given you

Nothing is lost if still remembered
And no moment is wasted if it was shared
Our anniversary is the sum total of what we have had
Our anniversary is but the shadow of what we have yet to come.

It's not the first time I've presented work for appraisal but I still get that nervous feeling!

I don't know if you'd call it a poem, per se, but it rhymes and it's the best thing I've written in a while so...

Nothing but Snow
I sat down on the least wet step to smoke a cigarette when I saw the snow falling again thinking, "damn, will this sh!t never end?" It's two in the afternoon and I just got dressed. I'm seasonally depressed as you might have guessed, but as everyone in Michigan knows the weather can only get better after a week of ice and snow.

my entry... short... but....

All my friends went far away
They left without a word to say......
I didn't know who they were
And to this day I can't be sure....
To them I'll leave this final line;
That heart you stole.... it was mine.
