i think that a big part of the problems in the highschools is the lack of respect for others shown by the students. if the students were taught from a young age to respect others and to harm none like we practice there would be a lot less violence caused to children by children. the parents have not cemented this value into there children to teach them how to live in society with others. this is clear looking at the biased and judgmental society in which we live.

I agree and I also wonder where these parents of these children are that they have no idea that their child is having a rough time at school or sneaking out guns!!
Come on parents let's do our jobs and parent!!

This also could be caused by parents with very little time or care for how their kids are doing...I see a lot of people *not* having the great relationship I have with my mom, and it disturbs me...And now all this publicity is making the gap even worse, making parents afraid of their kids. I mean, I wore a trench coat, dyed my hair blue, listened to Manson and had a very hard time making friends, but I think I turned out ok, and it's because my parents listened and cared, no matter how strange I was to them...
Parents should talk to their kids, not fear them.

I agree with you tarajane. We should be more focused on teaching respect for others to our children. I live in Canada and there was a group of children who got to pretend they were in parliament for a day. The main thing on their agenda was passing a bill that made it mandatory for children, starting at kdg, to do volunteer work at least twice during each school year. I think that is a great idea, and how wonderful that it came from the kids!

I think society has always been biased and judgemental. The main difference now is that they don't live by the 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all' rule. A few of the other rules of 'days of old' seem to be missing today. Respect for your elders, respect for others, and respect for others property are just a few.
