bad luck?

i'm pretty new to all of this, but somebody told me something that i don't know is true or not. but they said that its bad luck to do your own reading. or you're supposed to let somebody else cut the deck for you. i don't really know. i bought some books and i was looking for information on this, but i can't seem to find the answer..

*shrugs* I do my own readings all the time and I have no problems with it. The only thing is that you might see things the way you'd like to see them turn out, rather than the way they actually might turn out. ;)

I do my own readings as well, and they are just as accurate as reading for a stranger or a friend. How else are you suppose to get good at readings if you can't even read for yourself?? There are special circumstances when you may feel too close to the situation, coloring the reading with wishful thinking, or too emotionally involved.....and in times like those....then it's time to seek a reading from someone else.

I think it's just one of those "taboos" from the "old days". Like, your deck should be a gift and not purchased by you for you kind of thing. (There is no reason why you can't purchase your own deck. Decks draw you to them. How is someone else suppose to know what deck you will resonate with??)
