I've seen the forums/posts about member names and real names. This is the one to tell others what you were almost named. And if possible, why. You can tell the meaning of it too, if ya want.

Erm if I was a boy I'd have been named Shane and my younger brother would be Eric. If he was a girl he'd be Amanda.

That's all I've got for ya :)

We were SUPPOSED to be Kevin Michael and Karen (pronounced car - reen) Michelle. As I was unfortunately the surviving twin and to boot just a mere girl child I still got the name but that was it. My Grandparents wanted me to be named Khara Taryn which is my magick name to this day and what they always called me.

I spent my whole childhood wanting to be named Victoria so I could use Tory as a nickname. Everytime we moved I would tell everyone my name was Victoria, but they could call me Tory. Ok so I was weird. WAIT, I still am weird..... no worries

My parents were going to name me Katherine after my Great-grandma, but didn't because my Mom didn't want me to be named "Katy" or "Kathy". So they named me what my name is now. (and only a few know what that is) ;)

Of course, if I was a boy, I would have the name my bro has, cause Dad wanted to carry on the name.....glad he got it.

I too was an only surviving twin. Had my twin survived we would have been Hepsibah (me) and Hezekiah (him).

I'm twins with MidnightSun and we also have a younger sister. If I'd been a boy (which the doctors told my Mom that both of us twins were), I would have been Jeremy Michael and Shannon would have been...Joshua I think. My Mom wanted to name all 3 of us girls Faith, Hope, and Charity, but it didn't work out that way :) hehe

My mom wanted to name me Molly, but at the time my parents had a dog named Molly, and they didn't want her to get confused.

Gabriel, to be known as Gabe. Thanks to my grandmother I am NOT Hillary, my other sisters would have been Hope and Holly.

Ever here about the triplets named Faith, Hope and Charity? Faith was an atheist. Hope a pessimist and Charity was a miser.... :T

**grins** I was going to be named Victoria, but another relative on my dad's side named HER baby Victoria, born a month or so before me. So to avoid confusion they named me...something else.
If I was a boy, I would have been named after my father. A noble name -- but I'm just as glad I turned out female!

We have a very common last name... so there were a bunch of random things my mom wanted to name my brothers and me... but they would have ended up being the same as a variety of famous people... and we couldn't have that, so...

I just became Leah. :)

well since I created this post:
I don't know what I would have been named, had I been a boy. But here's a list of the stuff my mom came up with, now I know where I get some of my creativity from.
1. Abby Gail (Abby after my "great-grandmother" Abbie, Gail b/c of Abigail)
2. Abby Jean (ditto Abbie, Jean after "grandmother")
3. Leia Jean (darn it!)
4. Shanree Lynnleah (after the family's twins, Shannon Leah and Sheree Lynn) -thank you lord I wasn't named that, Lynnleah is a cool name tho
5. Fallon Faith
6. Sigourney (something) (After Sigourney Weaver)
7. Noel (my father's middle name, backwards)

My folks talked about naming me Darlene (glad they didn't) but Daddy said he was afraid the boys would call me Darlin' instead.
(Corny I know!)
I don't know if they had a boys name picked out.

Growing up I always wanted one of those unisex names like....Toni, Tomi, or Jo.....the name I really wanted was Randi.

I think my mom knew that I was to be a girl for the get go. So don't think she had any boys names picked out.

She was going to call me Christina, but figured everyone would call me Tina instead...so that ended up being me given name. I've adopted the name Kcrys (pronounced Chris) as I have always felt that I should have been named Christina. Have even given serious thought to getting my name changed to Kcrystina. But have decided not to cuz I have enough trouble with people spelling my last name wrong! *laugh*

I think you should. If that name feels more 'you', then definately. As for people spelling your name wrong. That's pretty universal. I won't tell you my last name. But my first name is Abby, and people spel THAT wrong. I don't just mean by spelling it 'Abbey' or 'Abbie' either. And there's my Grandmother, born Jeanne, had to change it to Jean b/c people kept callie her Jeannie. '-ne' does NOT sound like "knee". Not to mention when on the phone the people are like "G-e-n-e?" That's a male spelling! The only girl Gene I've ever heard of is that doll. People need help.

*giggles*

Well I have probs with my given first name too. All the variations you can think of to spell Tina, I have had it done. Heck it was spelled Trina once! Where they go that from out of Tina I have no idea!!

The problem with changing my name is the money it'll cost. Personally, I think they shouldn't charge you to change your name if that's what you decide to do. ...just another way to make money off ya...

I almost forgot, I also, among my long list, was nearly named Augusta. I was born in August. I wouldn't have minded the name, but too many people would probably have tried to call me Aggie *shudders*

Rubi Waters:
Here's a snippet to think about.
I was born Michelle Abby, and for a long time, though I have no recollection of it, I was called Shelly. Then my parents moved to NC for while, and everyone called me Abby. Therefore my mother actually had it changed to Abby Michelle. Yep, my birth certicate says Michelle Abby, my driver's liscense says Abby Michelle.

I was supposed to be called Caitlin or Alexandra... however, my mother ended up having an emergency Caesarian, and so when she had to register my name she was still so spaced out from the anaesthetic and the painkillers, that she couldn't quite remember what she'd wanted, and said "Catherine" (hey, close enough). She says she tried calling me Cathy for a few days, but it didn't suit me, so I've been Cait for short ever since.

If I'd been a boy, I would have been called Liam David or John David. I like "Liam"; "John David" is really pretty horribly unoriginal, though. :)

My mom was convinced I was a boy, and was going to call me Theodore.
Imagine her surprise when she saw an "inny"!
She had no girls names picked out, so simply dropped the 'S' off of her name, and so I am Andra. I am fortunate that I've always loved my name; although most ppl call me Andi.

And yes, it's mis-spelled and mis-prononced all the time. I actually had a teacher who told me I spelled my name wrong several times; silly woman.
And my maiden name is a tongue-twister-from-hell, so when I married Tommy, (alias moondog) I thought my last name troubles would end. (It sounds just like it's spelled.) But nooooooooooooo.....
