MM all..

Bare with me..this is only my second time posting on this forum..lol :)

I have been searching for my matron goddess for quite some time now..and I have come to the conclusion that it's most possibly the Morrigan. I read a bit about her and was intrigued..so I did some research. No matter how many times I try and not go that way..I get pulled back. I was upstairs in my bedroom trying to sleep one night..i turned around just in time to see a crow fly over my head. I also saw a woman in a hooded cloak standing at the end of my bed almost at the same time. Anyone have any advice on what I should do? Any information you can give me on ways to worship the Morrigan would be incredibly helpful as well. She seems to want my attention and as you can see it's kinda hard to ignore :) Thanks

Well, I can offer you some hints, and some links about Morrigan. With the Divine Ms. M, it is usually best to find your own way with her. There are other goddesses that had crows as symbols, tho - it may not be specifically her, but without other informations about the signs your hooded lady has been leaving you, I couldn't guess otherwise. You may want to ask for further communication before assuming this is the Morrigan; crows are also sacred to Rhiannon, and Athena.

Whiskey is the Lady's drink - she prefers Irish, but will drink others if there's nothing else. Red and Black are her colours. Like her crows, if something shiny catches her eye, like persay, jewelry, she'll probably want it on her shrine. Ravens and crows are potent representations of her - I also include an image of her as a red wolf, as mentioned in the legends of CuChullain, as it is relevant to myself. I find that she also likes the cauldron I have on her shrine in my home, as well as feathers. She seems to like carnelians as well. Spears are a good weapon for her, if you are to get one, but she likes bladed "toys". She likes pine incense, as well as dragon's blood, amber, and other very potent scents.
Blood, obviously, is sacred to her as well.

How you choose to honour Morrigan is entirely up to you; doing a lot of research helps. She can be a fickle goddess, and easily offended, but also loving and caring to her children.

There are some good articles about The Morrigan; you'll soon learn that's she's more than just a war goddess, and has many layers to discover, if she allows you. She has nine aspects, rather than the more commonly known three, but I leave that up to you to explore.

Thanks very much for those links and the info you sent. It was greatly appreciated. I'll look into the Goddesses you mentioned and see what happens. This is all cuz of something my Dad told me and cuz of something that happened recently. First off..Dad asked me if we did something cuz almost every single crow in the area it seems has flocked to the tree in our front yard. Second...i've been praying for guidance in the area of what career I should go into. I am very very very drawn to midwifery now, and have been my entire life. It could all be coinscidence but I am almost convinced it's her. Thanks again. :)

I have learned so much about the Morrigan from you two this morning. Morgandria offered some good points that other goddesses are associated with crows besides Morrigan. However, Morrigan is the goddess whom I think of when I think about goddesses associated with crows.

In my opinion, the Morrigan is a goddess of the night. For some reason, I knew that you would have a connection with the Morrigan just after reading your screen name, MidnightSun. The name is dark like midnight, but the sun part offers some light. The Morrigan is very similar to your name. This crow goddess has knowledge of death's mysteries. I think that this is kind of dark. She also reminds of our mortality; thus, she reminds us that we should try to make the most of our lives. In addition, she protects us when we are feeling depressed and self-conscious. For the last two reasons, the Morrigan is not just associated with the dark, but also brings light to our lives.

I think that Morgandria gave you so many WONDERFUL ways to honor the Morrigan. We now know about many of Morrigan's favorite things. You can honor whenever you choose, but I know that she has many big celebrations at Samhain on October 31.

What's kinda ironic about your post, Mnemosyne, is that I decided to be Wiccan on Samhain of 2000..lol :) I've always felt a deep love and connection with Halloween. What gets me is that Morrigan is so many things I'm not. Confident, self-assured....lots of those things. But it still feels like she chose me...maybe cuz I need those aspects? *shrugs* Thanks a lot Morgandria for the links you put up..the first was incredibly helpful..the 2nd I have bookmarked already :) I am going to go outside later tonight and meditate on all this...I'll let you all know what happens :)

Thanks so much again.

What a coincidence that you decided to become Wiccan on a day celebrated for the Morrigan. You state that the Morrigan has characteristics that you don't possess, such as confidence and self-assurance. I completely believe that the Morrigan chose you to help you. In my opinion, people have goddesses who have very similar characteristics as themselves. These goddesses or gods enhance their own strenghts. In contrast, others choose gods and/or goddesses who remind them to focus on areas that are neglected at times. As mentioned earlier, the Morrigan is a goddess who reminds me of balance- a combination of light and darkness. (ok, more dark than light) She is probably reminding you to find balance in your own life. :)

MM :)

Mnemosyne, you took the words right out of my mouth. I know I have those things I mentioned in my personality...I just don't listen to them. I am a complete push-over. My little sister calls me a welcome mat, everyone steps on me, or so it seems. After reading through everyone's answers..I am going to set up a shrine later tomorrow. I did do the meditation btw, the other morning. To me she seems like a wonderful woman who I can't wait to get to know. She isn't scary at all. Thanks for all of your suggestions, they are incredibly helpful.

*nods* Just be aware that while she is many-faceted, and may someday not appear to you in this guise. As well, The Morrigan is one of the Gods that still demands sacrifice, in various forms - you will be challenged and called upon at sometime.

The Morrigan sound so powerful. You mentioned earlier, Morgandria, that there are nine aspects to the Morrigan even though most of us think of three. To be honest, I only know of her three aspects. Because she is so powerful, is it wise for people to pay tribute to all of the Morrigan or just certain aspects? For example, can one emphasize devotion to Macha, or would the other parts feel left out?

Well...I honour Her as all of her aspects. I know people, tho who honour Morrigan as Babd, or Morrigan as Macha, or Morrigan as Anu....and those specific aspects represent specific ideas, or realms. They're like smaller flames in a bigger fire. I know that some of her aspects are easier to approach than Her as a whole.
And there are definetely people who work with Macha as a goddess, but not Morrigan, and I never heard of her being offended by it.

I know, for example, that if I were looking to work on aspects of difficult childbirth, or to protect a barn of horses, I might work with Macha. If I were pathworking, or working on my connections with the land, I might work with Anu. It all depends on what you're looking at.

WOW! I never knew too much about Morrigan, even though I have worshiped her faithfully for a few years. Things are starting to make sense, I was drawn by something to give blood sacrifices to Morrigan, in way of offering my blood to a pine tree, never did I know that Morrigan had a liking of blood, or of pine. I see now why I continued with this ritual. It may not be the easiest, or most pleasant, but I am happy to give my blood to Morrigan, and wear the scars proudly.
