I've been thinking about Goddess Anat. Actually meditating a lot on her. I usually concentrate on Hindu pantheon, so due to my lack of knowledge on other areas I started wondering if I'm correct in my understanding that Anat is benevolent, loving and abundant mother, yet fierce warrior goddess, protecting her devotees from calamity. I wrote in my journal: "All of us have light and darkness in ourselves, and this goddess reminds us to see them both."

Does anyone here know more about her, or feel particularly connected to her?

LOL

Anat is part of my pantheon of goddesses. She is daughter of Asherah, and sister to Ba'al Hadadd.

She is seen as a mother figure in that she helped suckle the gods and some princes of men.

She and her brother are lovers and yet she is perpetually a virgin.
She is also known as a great warrior, not too unlike Diana.

Kings going into battle will ask for her protection. Lovers in love will ask for her goodwill. And the hunter will ask for her favor.

Her mother Asherah is consort to El the father god of all.

The above is a fantastic website for info about her and other Canaanite/phoenician god/goddess.

Hope I've helped

Welcome to MW, Asherah! Great site! I don't much about the Hindu pantheon. The pantheons have so much in common. Anat sounds so much like Diana/Artemis.

I loved the quote that you wrote in your journal, Ganga. "All of us have light and darkness in ourselves, and this goddess reminds us to see them both." In my opinion, most gods and goddesses have a light and dark side to them. I think that is part of their power. You know that they can be kind and benevolent; however, they have the power to be dark and mysterious. The two sides of the dieties remind that there is a bit of them in all of us.
