Hello. I read Tarot For Dummies and I saw the image of a certain card from a deck. It's a Witches Deck. And my mind told me to buy that deck. But I feel that I already have two decks. The Cachet Deck and the Rider-Waite Deck. I know it's crazy but I really like tarot so much that I'm really became a tarot crazed fanatic.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I think if you feel drawn to certain decks you should get them. I collect tarot decks, because I love the different artwork on them and the different interpertations of the cards. I think that makes me a better reader as well because I'm more aware of alternate meanings.

I have seen some Tarot Crazed Fanatics who own more than a Dozen Decks each.
They are Fanatics. You are not yet begun to become a Fanatic as compared to them.
I, myself, am a One Deck Man.
I do all my Readings with my Stonehenge Blessed and Consecrated Rider/Waite Deck.
I do own a Light and Shadow Deck and a Marseilles Deck, but I dont use them very much.

Yep, my name is Lisa and I too, am a tarot-holic. Tarotholics Anonymous is nothing more than a group of enablers. Don't join unless you want to go broke @ Borders, Tarot Garden, etc. LOL
I picked up the Gothic Tarot companion book as well, but no new deck for me. I'm waiting for Deviant Moon. :)
You want to see some other collectors? Check out the sticky for the "how many decks do you have".

As Tarot cards , normally do not suffer from addictions ,
I know of no one who has become addictive to Tarot cards...:T
However , yes , I have known a few people , who have become
addicted to Tarot cards , and divination , on a daily basis , to
the point of psychosis...

No, it's not hard to believe. Tarot is collectible art. Beautiful art that is useful in many, many ways.
I don't think someone who collects decks is addicted to Tarot. I think that addiction with Tarot occurs when someone cannot make a decision without consulting the cards, who cannot live their life without seeing what the cards have to say about it. I left the professional reading realm a few years ago because of the sheer number of people who become addicted. They don't want control of their own lives, they don't want to be responsible, especially if they've made bad decisions in the past. So they try to turn over responsibility and decision-making to a reader, or to a deck of cards.

Well, if that's the case, then anyone who collects anything has an addiction.
And as far as the kind of decisions I was speaking of, I was talking about all kinds of decisions. Consulting an oracle, such as the Tarot, to take a deeper look at a situation, to get a grasp on things is one thing, but I've known people who want the Tarot to make the decisions for them, so they don't have to.

They are like potato chips.
Just accept it. It's easier.
Oh, and get a good job. You need good income in order to have income you consider disposable. Now that the car is paid off it seems that I work to support my tarot habit. Good thing I never tried crack.

 I have the advantage of being self-employed, and part of my income derives from doing Tarot readings, thus decks are tax deductible as business expenses!

I would have to be rich to have all the decks I want. I just have two - the Thoth deck, which is in a beautiful purple silk-lined satin bag with georgous beadwork, and the Sacred Circle tarot which is looking desolate and lonely without a pretty bag. I have to get a bag for that deck before it stops talking to me! Then, I want to get some sort of oracle deck - maybe an angels one. Then I'll have to get a beautiful bag for that one. Then maybe a witches deck and of course a beautiful bag for that one . . . . . . . . .
Maybe I should start doing some readings for money, and use all the money for new decks and bags.

I should buy the Sacred Circle, Egyptian Tarot or both, or leave it alone and save it! Oh man, I just can't decided right now!:boing:

You might want to try something a bit simpler to start with. My QCards for example (on my site - free) are quite easy to learn.

Kind of creepy, huh? That people will put their lives into the hands of a tarot reader; that they can't make one major decision to save their life without one; and the sad picture is they don't realize they could atleast do it themselves.
I only read tarot when I'm wondering how a certain situation might turn out, but I don't base my life or actions on it. That's the beauty of tarot aside from its wonderful art, is that you living your life aside from the tarot could be the possible cause of that situation turning out the way it does - kind of like a creepy "This is your destiny - no matter what!" kinda movie.

I have the witch deck and rider-waite. Also the goddess oracle.
I really want the fairy oracle. But it was really expensive last time I looked.
I bought my rider-waite second hand.
Do people feel the new to buy new decks?

That certainly sounds like a great start to a bona fide tarot compulsion. Really, it's not an "addiction". We tend to use that word tongue in cheek or throw it around too loosly IMO.
As others have said, collecting decks can be a rich very fulfilling thing to collect and use. Inlike say stamps or whatnot, decks have the potential to further your spiritual path deeply and really become a tool to listen to your soul and inner wisdom.....and of course the wisdom of the Gods. That's what the word divination really refers to anyways.
There's nothing to be ashamed of in collecting decks! Think of the VERY expensive items others collect. For a mere $20-30 a deck you're getting 78 pieces of art and a new tool to maybe add to your path.
I find each deck I like to read with has a different distinct voice. Almost a personality. The other decks I rarely use but love for the artwork, those I love to shuffle and look through slowly. It calms me and set things right in my soul.
Shuffing has always been meditative and centering for me.
If I get a deck with only seeing a few cards and end up hating the deck, I don't keep it. I have only regretted one deck I sold like that and wanted back!
I wanted to ask a question of those who have more than a few Tarot decks and what others think. Have you ever been ridiculed and been told that to have many decks is a BAD childish thing? I find that with those who have no understanding or even clue about reading, divination, Tarot and it's use in spiritual matters...those kind just won't and never will get it or truly understand. You know? You can't explain something like that adequtely. It's something one grows in and becomes so to say.
Anyways, do any of you ever get a BAD reaction to the number of decks you own? I don't mean others thinking tarot and reading is bad, but the number of decks you have makes you bad and people make fun of it and it's a source of ridicule? I have experienced this sadly.

there are lots of thing we can put our time in and tarot is one of those things where it can change our lives around. I am not sure what you mean by addicted. There are lots of things what we are addicted to, so may be we should stop some of the other stuff first.

Hi...
back online and have added to my collection.....
I have 4 decks..
NAT by Magda Weck Gonzalez.....
Medicine Woman Tarot
RWS Original Rider Waite..
Vision Quest
Osho Zen
and John Holland's Psychic Tarot.......(not 78 cards.... uses no court cards but adds 7 Chakra cards...)
Lucy Cavendish Tarot Oracle (no Court cards no replacement cards)....
I use at different times....
buy my addiction is Oracle decks is beyond counting........maybe..lol?
but i do find different clients prefer different decks......and my mood ...........
Some of the decks i am still learning to work with in depth....
and it is neat trying out the different spreads.......within the different books.....
with different decks..........
all good............. i think it is a positive tool to collect...........
Addiction to me is when someone ph's you every week for an apointment or phone different readers .....or at a fair they sit at every reader's table trying to get the message they want, not what they need, and they totally surround their life by what the reader says....they can not live or move forward without a reading telling them what to do......yuk...........
These tools are are a great guidance tool............to help in major decisions to to confirm you are on the right path but not too live by...........

i have a strange deck (don't have enough money to buy another one) so i'm having to learn the rules a little differently...the minor arcana is like a regular set of playing cards, only butterflies/crosses/masks/roses and no symbolism...other than this minor setback, i love tarot...not my main form of divination (scrying is my thing)...but the cards are always so pretty...i want the bohemian gothic deck and the luis royo deck...anyone have these?
