I was visited by a goddess in a dream this morning and for the life of me...... I can not remember her name. One of those fade as we wake things. Now...I am distressed about this and it is driving me crazy cuz.....I think her visit is very relative to everything that is going on in my world at this moment.
I have searched the Encyclopedia mythica and I am not having much luck........kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack. Therefore....... here I am asking my wonderful cyber family for help! Ü Ü

Okay........She is very tall........dark skinned and has very long(down to her hips) dark brown/black hair.
I think te name she gave me began with a "m" but I am losing the dream so quickly.....it is hard to remember.
I was intimidated by her at first. She is so tall and has very rough looking features and skin. Then.........I could see through all that and she was not scary anymore. Her skin looked almost like dry wood to begin with but that all changed too.( I know....that is probably part of my own preconceived notion but figure the more info I give ya..... the better chances I have on any of you being able to help me.

So............any help you can provide will be extremely appreciated. It is easier to research something with a bit of the fog removed ...... ya know? lol

Anyways.........I am off to read the posts....................
Thanks very much in advance............
hugs and blessings.......

What clothes was she wearing?

hehe I'm sure you can understand "tall and dark" doesn't help too much.

It would also help to know what she seemed to be associated with or why she thinks she's pertinent in your life, since deities are largely known by their spheres or the feelings they emit (such as motherly, etc.). I know you said you were scared at first, but then I think most of us would be momentarily frightened by coming face to face with any deity. :) Most deities are recognized not by how they look so much (since they appear to everyone differently), but by what feelings or qualities they bring out or seem to be associated with, so really that's the most important thing you need to look at.

After that clothing is usually the best indicator, as people of all colours and shapes existed throughout time, but clothes varied according to culture.

The only thing that comes off the top of my head is that the "skin like dry wood" reminds me of driftwood and thus a goddess of water and beaches.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if you don't figure it out either. If you are forgetting the name there's a very good chance it's not important anyway. Too often we seek to name what we see, when in reality names can be pretty unimportant.

LOL..... Yes..........I guess that would help huh?? lol

Okay........she was dressed more in a swaddling/loincloth type of dress. The clothes may have even been animal skins.
Looking at her, I tended to think more at first she was a warrior Goddess..........but......then.........When the feelings all changed......She was quite healing.......and Supportive. But....On the other hand......as we well know.......There are both aspects to all too.
In the dream..........she had me swear on oath to her.

Okay....The dream went as this.

My coven was in circle and celebrating( I don't know what celebration....that was never made clear in the dream)
I was feeling in the circle as I am most of the time outside of circle......I have no chosen diety..... (I was waiting for one to let me know..... Or some sign)So......suddenly she appears and once conversation began.....she intorduced herself...........Had me swear love, honor and peace. Then her final message to me was that I should not let 2 people in my personal life continue to do what they have been doing to each other any longer.
With this oath........I was given clearer insight and intuition.

NOw.......In my personal life.........
I have 2 friends who are literally tearing apart each other and their relationship because of a tragedy that all of us have lived through. They buried a child....and because of this.........they are having so much difficulty everywhere else in their lives. It literally began the downward spiral for both of them. I know how they feel.....her murder damn near killed me and I am only her auntie.
So..........over the past 18 months........I am watching them tear themselves apart......spiritually..........financially.......you name it. I have watched my best friend die right before my eyes. He is mearly a shell of who he used to be. He is slowly making his way back.........but........still a long ways to go.

Well......the Goddess.......told me that I had found my deity......as well as I was to try to help them solve the problems they were having and try to bring them together or encourage them to quit while they were behind.(not her words...... but the jist if what I was told.)
So.............I hope this is of more help. Let me know if ya need anything else.

I really appreciate the help Myst

hugzzzzzzzzz.

Ok first, if there's a murder involved, you need to be talking to the police. Second, these people need therapy or something if they aren't dealing with it. The best thing you can do is get them some sort of professional help - whether it's a therapist, a marriage counsellor, whatever.

But yeah, that's not what you asked, I know :D

The animal skins along with the hair and skin you mentioned immediately conjure images of Native Americans. As far as being a warrior/healer, that's pretty common among Goddesses too. The best thing to do would be to go into meditation and ask her who she is. You might also do lots of research and try to find her in books, which will put your mind in that frame to find her. I know, I'm no help at all am I? :D

Wow! What an exciting dream! When gods and goddesses visit you in dreams, it is a really good omen and means that you have some spiritual contentment in your life.

Were there any symbols in your dream? Usually, gods and goddesses can be identified because of symbols associated with them. Also, I have to agree with Myst that dieties are more easily recognized by their feelings and qualities instead of by their appearances.

Nevertheless, I tried to think of the goddess who was in your dream. Because you wrote that your goddess was really tall and had dark skin, I immediately thought that your goddess was Egyptian. An Egyptian goddess whose name begins with the letter "M" is Maat. She is the goddess of truth and harmony. She was the goddess who helped out in the judgement in the room of the dead. Those people who had Maat in their heart were thought to be virtuous. Perhaps Maat is the goddess whom you dreamed, Reanna.

Or also MUT

her name is the same root as the egyptian word for mother and this reveals part of her charachter in that, like hathor or aset, she is one of the pharoahs symbolic mothers. Her iconography is predominantly anthropormorphic, a slim lady in a linen dress, she holds a sceptre.

OR Meskhenet

Goddess presiding at childbirth

And Reanna i agree with Myst, speak to the law and get them therapy ... i know how you must feel right now but stay strong and things will get better

I wrote my first post on this thread before reading your second post, Reanna. I had no idea that there was turmoil going on in your life. If I were you, I would follow Myst's advice. Meditation would be the best bet, and your friends might need some therapy. Perhaps your dream was a blessing. In my opinion, goddesses visit us in our dreams at times when we need extra support in our lives. I am still sticking to my original idea that a dream like yours could be a positive sign.

By the way, I think that Chary offered you some good tips about who the goddess may be. I looked at other goddesses who might have visited you in your dream but did not come up with any other ideas.

Like Xander, I got an impression of who you were talking about; though the name I came up with was Morrigan. Similar, I s'pose; but without knowing more about her, I can't say for sure.

Except that Ma'at has nothing to do with being a warrior or healing, and an Egyptian goddess wearing linen doesn't exactly sound like a goddess wearing animal skins to me (distinct difference).

Thank you very much for your help.
Although....I guess I should have been a bit more specific(it is a touchy area..... so please forgive me)
In the murder...........
The police have been involved all the way along. In fact... we are in the final(hopefully...but not holding our breath) stages of the trial.
And as for them seeking counselling and help.........it is being done...In many different ways and in many different fashions. Support groups.... one on one, together as family.... believe me....... we are doing it.

So.....thank you for your help and concern, I can't express how much it means to me.

I am off to look up and find more info on what you and the others have provided. If ya think of anything else........please let me know. I am gonna try the meditation. I suck at it....can never stay focused long enough....but I am going to try it when it gets quiet in my house after the kids go to bed tonight.

Many hugs and blessings to you all........

Yes, i agree. But i was just giving information as to other goddesses that i felt it could be ... we all percieve goddesses different IMHO and perhaps they wouldn't appear the way we expect them too. But just a suggestion, however, i think mysts suggestion about it being native american makes most sense

I'll do a search in either google or lycos for some deities for you ... hopefully i can find something helpful.

I totally agree, Myst. I wrote that the goddess could have been Egyptian before reading Reanna's second post.

In my opinion, the goddess would probably be a part of the Native American pantheon. However, I looked for Native American goddesses fitting the description, and I had no luck. :(

Reanna, I would try to look at the symbolism in your dream. I strongly believe that our dreams happen for a very important reason. If I were you, I would ask member Freyja to help you with the dream. I know that she is really good at dream interpretation.
