I know most of us collect decks...that we don't use, just to have them

How is everyone storing these collected decks...?

Well, I keep my extra deck with my other less used divination tools. Ones that I have for when the mood strikes me and such. They're all safe and sound together in a little box I have. :)

There are a couple I store in the boxes they came in up on my dresser, I don't use these ones. The one's that I use, or think I'd like to use get wrapped in a natural fabric (cotton, silk, etc.) or the bag's matching laycloth, then placed either in a silk lined bag/tote or in a wooden box.

The deck I use regularly, are wrapped in my 'laycloth' and stored in a silk lined tarot tote sized bag....it goes everywhere with me....most the time! :D

I don't so much yet so I have little knowledge of fabric.

Is velvet considered natural??

My guess is probably not, :( but I love it sooooo much!
I love the look and feel of it and that is what I have made my stone bags out of and my tarot cloth.

Hiya all :D
I havent really got round to start collecting decks yet ~ but would really like to start a collection, once Ive got a bit more cash.
I would really like to frame some major arcana's from certain decks too to display them in my house ~ maybe one day in the future :)
As for now I have two which I use ~ one for more personal readings for my close friends and family and one for general readings and to illustrate the meanings of the cards more.
I keep one deck wrapped in pink silk in a willow box with a rose quartz crystal and the other deck wrapped agian in a darker pink silk in a silk bag I made myself ~ this way I can keep one deck at home and carry one deck with me :D
I always love to have my tarot with me now ;)

Velvet comes in cotton and silk, which both are natural, but most velvet these days is synthetic since it holds it's pile better. Don't forget - rayon and raime are man-made natural fabrics, so they can qualify, too.

Most of my decks are stored in their orginal boxes with the cards placed in number and suit order. The decks I use are wrapped in silk ( mine are wrapped in tomato red- not black), and some of them have wooden boxes, but not all. Sometimes I use the silk wrapper for a laycloth, but I also have separate cloths for that purpose, too.

Personally, (Native Americans disagree with me) I don't think Tarot cards should be placed in a leather pouch since as natural as it is, leather is the skin of a slaughtered animal. My Animal Medicine cards are in suede, though!

I always keep my collection under my pillows. (And I have a plethora of pillows.) That way, when I'm dreaming, the cards have a chance to be close to my subconcious mind.

My one and only and absolute favorite deck is stored in a bag that came with my hubbys coffee mug, lol. The outside is a blue crushed velvet type fabric, very nice. The inside is lined with a completely water-proof material. It's the perfect size. If I get any more decks he's buying more coffee mugs so I can have the bags from them, lol.

Love & light,

My Elemental Tarot is in this beautiful maroon crushed velvet bag with a gold sun, tassels, and drawstring cord. The rest are in their original boxes. :( I really wish I had more bags or boxes, but when it's between buying a bag or another deck... well... :D

Well, I don't collect tarot cards (yet ;) ) but the decks I don't use as often is stored in a wooden box. The once I use are too stored in a wooden box, a different box, more like a drawer on my old inherited sowing table that these days serve for storage of many magickal things, like crystals, runes, herbs etc. :) :D

LOO why dont you make some little bags for them! They are really easy to make ~ even if you are useless at sowing like me :p
& this way makes the bags really personal ~ you can even sow sequins and decorate the outside of you bag :) ~ Dagda told me about this originally and I made one for my Mythic deck which I now use to carry my cards around with me :)

Emy your sowing table sounds really magickal :) I love antiques!

I actually bought a velvet bag with a pentacle on it yesterday to store my cards in. And I was gonna post a thread on card storage until I saw this!

Actually, if you have a sewing machine, it's not too hard to make a bag. No fancy sewing or anything....just a couple straight lines! You don't even have to have it as a drawstring closure (which can be tricky if you've never done it before), you could just sew it so there's a flap, slap some velcro on there....and viola! :D

I don't have a sewing machine though. :( *shrug* Maybe I'll attempt it anyway sometime. Thanks for your help. :)

I keep my deck in a bag, knitted from unbleached silk. The inside is lined with gold silk. I carry it around with me everywhere. I usually keep it in a pocket of my backpack so I don't forget it when I'm off to work. I don't usually use it during the day there but I just like having it with me.

Loopy, do you knit? I could give you the instructions on how to knit a bag?

:D You could always buy some material (different colours for diiferent decks or a big peice of the same) then cut it into long lengths and just simply wrap this round your decks and tie at the end.. then buy some ribbon to make it look even prettier :D
Cant fail with wrapping material ;)
