View Full Version : some clarification needed

So. I did my first Tarot-reading (to myself). Till now, I've been reading about the major arcana and taking out a "touchstone"-card in the mornings to learn. It was very interesting to lay more than one card on the table (I'm still confused with reversals, so I shuffled the cards in a way that kept them all upright). The first, I decided, was the present, the second the past, the third the learning opportunity, the fourth the future, and the fifth the overall picture. I also pulled an extra card to confirm what I felt. I think I managed to get "into" the cards pretty well, but it's hard to say when my own life situation is (obviously) so close to me. Did I just read my own mind, or did I actually read the cards? I was wondering if anybody would like to take a look at the cards and give her/his idea. It would be interesting to see if my interpretation corresponds with yours. It would also clarify a few things I wasn't so sure about. The question is mostly regarding about my family's money-problems and, more importantly, problems with our employer, and some frustations we feel. So this is what I have:

1. present: Page of Cups
2. past: The Sun
3. learning opportunity: The Fool
4. future: The Queen of Swords
5. overall picture: Three of Pentacles

6. extra card, confirmation: Ten of Swords

Hi Ganga, it sounds as though your doing a great job! Taking a card a day and meditating and reading up, writting down your thoughts on it is a brilliant way to learn! :)
You may also want to place that same card under your pillow at night to see if anything also comes up in your dreams..

Reversals still get me too, so I wouldnt worry about them.. even if you dont keep your cards all upright (as is hard to do.. especially if other people are handling them) dont worry, just turn the card upright when you lay it down to read with..

Id love to see what you came up with first!
I bet you did great!
Your the one who can read your cards, as they are your cards and have your energy within them, we also cant see you cards and read the picutres/stoires they have to tell.
But in the mean time here a few thoughts that popped into my mind when I read down the cards you drew...
1. present: Page of Cups ~ Your emotions coming out to your dilema in this reading, you pondering over these problems, day dreaming of what could be, has been, your dreams, desires. Also this is representing you asking the cards and opening up your emotions and spirituality I think.
2. past: The Sun ~ good times, laughter, happiness, warmth and much love. Money not being a problem at all.
3. learning opportunity: The Fool ~ this is going to be a new path, which your not used to, which youll learn a great deal from, money was not a worry in the past, now it is, but you have to look at this as a lesson, a new outlook on life, a new energy in life.
Also you learning the tarot and developing spiritually.
4. future: The Queen of Swords ~ your communication with people around you, be direct, thoughtful, honest, and have faith in your thoughts and power.
5. overall picture: Three of Pentacles ~ you have to work as a team and bring all your good energy and love together again. Your family is a very strong one!

6. extra card, confirmation: Ten of Swords ~ Your worrying alot about all this and its really getting to you and wearing on your mind. This is just confirming the problem, now you have to use the fools positivity to learn and grow from this and also the last two cards, the queen and the 3 to draw on and gain knowledge and action.

How does that sound? :)

Thank you, SilverVenus. It was very positive, and I especially appreciated your insights of the Queen of Swords; a reminder to be direct, thoughtful and honest while maintaining faith.

This is what I saw:
Present: Like the boy in the picture looking at the fish with a curious and a slightly helpless expression, I am surprised by what's coming up in my life, and from my "cup of emotions".

In the past: Things have been good, or better than now in some regards. Perhaps it's now time to draw from those energy deserves.

I totally agree with your vision of The Fool (learning opportunities). New path, new learning, spiritual lessons.

The future: I interpreted this card quite drastically (I use Hanson-Roberts deck, but for example in Barbara Walker Tarot this card is Kali - typical Destroyer, Crone) as definite changes in the future. In order for something new to take birth (a better situation, for example), something old has to first die, or be severed. We have been contemplating whether it is wise to stay where we are, or move elsewhere, or stay but look for new work.

The overall picture-card: confirmed everything (in my eyes) as it refers to work. I think that good and skillful work and effort ought to be rewarded by both appreciation and compensation. Actually, an incident that took place last week was that I needed to take our kids urgently to the dentist, and the bill was $700 (a big amount for us!). Well, we stay in Canada at present as sponsored visitors, invited by our employer, who has promised to take care of our medical bills (it's even written in our immigration papers). When we asked if we could get re-imbursed for the dental bill, we were told, "No problem", but later the committee decided not to pay, after all, actually saying, "If you ask for 700 now, you might ask 3,000 next time", which was rather mean. We have been 2 years here now, and have never asked anything for dental coverage (we do have employer-paid regular medical insurance, though, but it doesn't cover dental). I'm even not sure if dental bills are "medical expenses" legally, and have no money to consult a lawyer. This was the main incident that has taken place, but there have been smaller incidents of non-appreciation earlier.

The confirming card: just seemed to confirm the picture, but the rising sun at the background did give me hope. (And The Sun did appear in the reading earlier, too.) Things are now as bad as they can get, but should get better. What I'm wondering about is whether the change for the better involves drastically cutting off something with the sword, or what. Would it be wise to pull ourselves away from our situation, just quit and start all over again? At the moment I'm (we're) trying to be patient and wait, so that we won't fall off the flying Pegasus (our dreams) like what's-his-name, or like Icarus trying to fly too high, too soon. My today's meditation card was 8 of Rods (Wands), and I'm taking courage and hope from the fact that messages, inspiration and hope will come from Above, if we just are patient.

Hmm. More meditations on the Eight of Rods:

When I first pulled out this card, I thought, "How am I supposed to understand this since it doesn't have any people in it!", but I have come to see much meaning in this card. In my deck (Hanson-Roberts), the rods have beautiful rosebuds on their tips. In this card they are flying down from the sky. I placed the card leaning on a pegasus on my altar, and thought that even our Fall from Glory (the non-appreciation we feel, etc.) contains such beautiful lessons. They are like little rosebuds of hope and love and wisdom, like small rose-like messages from Goddess. The Fool, too, carries a rose in his hand to symbolize his spiritual desires.

Even though this card cautions us to be patient (lest we fall), it also gives comfort and hope.

Wow sounds as though you are doing wonderfully! Your explanations/interpretations of the cards are very poetic and you are seeing so, so much in all the cards! I think you are certainly on your new path with the Fool! :)
The 8 of wands is a great teaching card, and it seems to be really opening you up! It also gives me the message of learning from the goddess when I draw it..

:D

Roses can also mean different things depending on there colours, if they are white ~ for purity, red ~ for sacrifice and love, gold for honour...
