MM :)

Ok....in my research on The Morrigan, I came across Daghda. So i've been doing research and I have a lot in common with this God. Any idea's on how to honor him?

Did you possibly feel a connection with Dadga when you found out that this great god had a thing going for the Morrigan? Do you know the stories about Dadga? I bumped up another thread on him to help you out, MidnightSun. Sometimes we understand the deities better when we learn about their roles in their own pantheon and myths.

If you read Celtic mythology, you see that Dadga had magical powers. He had a magical harp, club, cauldron, and tree. For some reason, food always come to mind when I think about Dadga, since he was able to produce infinite amounts of it. These are just some images associated with Dadga. To honor Dadga, perhaps you can have these items associated with Dadga, or if you don't have these items, images of them at your altar. By having these symbols connected with Dadga, you will conjure thoughts of the god. Hope this info helps a little.

Actually, Mnemosyne, I had been reading about him right along with the Morrigan, so it really has nothing to do with him having a thing with the Morrigan. It's more like I feel a connection to him. After reading some of the very few stories I could find, me and him have some things in common :) Thanks for your info, and the other thread. I read all of it and it has been helpful :)

Yeah, I understand. The gods and goddesses all have so many special powers. However, there are some deities who just stand out from the others. In my opinion, Dadga is such a special god- so many great attributes. No wonder his name means the "the good god." The Morrigan and Dadga, oh you have such a powerful mix!

Daghda, an irish god of abundance. fertility, wisdom and magick. The daghda was the supreme tribal deity of the "Tuatha De Danann, the fifth people to invade Ireland, and was referred to as the "great father" and the "mighty one of the great knowledge". The Daghda's offspring included Oenghus the god of love and the goddess brighid.

The daghda possessed a massive club, one end of which was lethal, while the other end brought the dead back to life, and a huge cauldron from which he dispensed the never ending sustenance.

Though revered, the daghda had a superhuman appetite which sometimes made him appear ridiculous or even grotesque. On one such occasion, the Formorians made a vast 'porridge' of milk, meat, fat, goats, sheep and pigs in his cauldron ... the Daghda consumed it and fell asleep. He woke to find a beautiful woman before him but he was unable to make love because his stomache was sooooo full.

You'd think, yeah...

Wasn't the Dagda the one who "led," so to speak, the invasion of the Tuatha deDanann into Ireland? I vaguely recall reading something like that.
I wonder if the Dagda's large appetite had something to do with why he was responsible for the Cauldron of Plenty :)

Yeah, I think that Dagda's large appetite is why he had the cauldron of plenty. He also did lead the Tuatha De Danann. Remember that his enemies, the Fomorii, once made him a really big meal. Clearly, Dadga sure loved his food. His love for food and beautiful women make me think of Dadga as being a very physical and powerful god.

Why is that?

Since this is a family site, I won't go into too much detail, Mol. Although he is a great god, Dagda is into wordly pleasures- food and women. These pleasures are quite physical in my opinion. And for the powerful part- Dagda turned into an ugly, old man after eating the meal that the Fomorii prepared. However, he was still able to get a woman. Now, he must have special power to eat all that food and attract a woman.

Hmmm...most would consider that kind of appetite disgusting though!

 You're right, Mol. I don't think that women would find that appetite attractive. The gods can get away with these types of things though. lol.

Because of a power they wield over the women involved?
