View Full Version : Energy For My Dog

The original thread is in Critter Chat, but now that it looks like surgery will be in the works, I'm asking for energy here. Anything would be very much appreciated.
Original thread (http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=186685)
The basic outline of it is he has glaucoma because of a suspected tumor in that eye. There's a slight change it's not a tumor, but they will make sure once he's already under. If it's a tumor, they will remove his eye. If the tissue problem, they will just inject him with something to make it clear up on its own and he'll keep his eye. (Either way, the vision is lost in that eye.)
I hope that they either don't have to take out his eye, or that the eye surgery will go very well and that he'll have a speedy recovery and adaptation. The potential surgery may be as soon as Monday (tomorrow).

He's going in today around 10/11am, so in a few hours. They're going to check one last time to make sure they have to take his eye, but either way, today will be it.
They didn't give me much info over the phone, so I don't know how long it'll take, if I can wait there for him, or what. I'll probably update here by tonight.
On a good note, since he's been given proper pain medications, he's been acting like his regular self, all happy and such. This makes me feel better, since it seems that he's already handling his half-blindness really well.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot to thank everybody for the energy they've been sending. :hugz:

Sorry that I didn't return last night for an update. I'm sure you could all understand why.
The surgery people were extremely nice and considerate. They ran the last-minute tests and let me know that it was indeed a tumor in his eye before they went on with the surgery. I got him back around 6pm. (I had dropped him off around 10:30am, so this was like the longest day of my life.)
He looks a little ghoulish, I'll admit, but it's only because the stitches are in and protruding (think of any rubber Halloween mask you've seen) and they had to shave around that entire area. Although I don't care how he looks in the long run (just how he feels), they said you can hardly notice the surgery once the stitches are out and his fur grows back. I was going to post a picture, but figured it might gross some people out. Although his eye area is permanently sewn shut, they put in a prosthetic eye to retain shape, which I thought was nice of them to do.
Personality-wise, I think he's doing very well. He's still a little drugged (I'm pretty much keeping him so) and that area is already starting to itch him, but other than that, he's his regular self. As expected, his depth perception is a bit off, but I was told he'd adapt to that very quickly.
I took off from my classes today and tomorrow since they said the first 48 hours may be the most difficult for him. I'll be taking off the rest of the week if he still needs me. As of now, he's still not really capable of getting food and water on his own. He also can't go up stairs, so I spent the night with him on the couch (and will continue to do so).
He gets his stitches out in two weeks. I donated his eye to an animal research facility. They're going to experiment with it to see if they can somehow find out the reason behind doggie eye tumors. Maybe some day it'll help save the eye of some other pup.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped me out. :hugz: I really do appreciate it. Now that he's out of surgery and home, I feel much, much better. My last scare had been that the surgery would go wrong or he wouldn't come out of the anesthesia, but that never happened.
And yes, Mojie will be dressed as a pirate for this year's Halloween. :)
