sweet!!! you should come visit me sometime! F-16s fly around here all the time. they use my parents farm buildings and other neighboring farm buildings for target manuevers (non-armed of course!)! (pisses dad right off when we're out trying to work up cattle cause they get spooked BIG TIME! lmao)
whats really freaky is the SR71 blackbirds flying over at night.... there is NO sound what so ever and they travel from skyline to skyline in no time flat!:bug:

What sort of planes were they? RAAF Fairbairn is often used by various aircraft.

Huh.
I'm near 2 military bases-- Airforce and Naval. And there's another a little farther away.
Though, I've never seen a fighter planes near my home, we do hear a lot of their practices. It sounds like trees falling close by and sometimes, you can feel the vibrations from their weapons--it travels that far. I'm sure they use tanks and everything. Sometimes it bothers my dad-- he has PTSD from Viet'man--because it very similar to combat sounds.
You might have seen those fighters doing a military exercise?
But because we have a small civilian landing pad near our home, we get those little personal planes flying over our house. Sometimes they stall and that freaks me out, I don't want any falling on/near my house.

I got a similar surprise the other day whilst getting my lunch in central London. Turns out its the 90th (i think) aniversary of the RAF. I was walking along, as the Red Arrows and a few Typhoons blew past. Very pretty, though I think I was the only person in the city that didn't know they were going to do it.:falloffch

There's a tank gunnery range a few miles down the coast, where they shoot live rounds into the side of a hill (usually; unless they go over into the sea :foopsies: ). If they wind's in the right direction, you can hear a regular "thump". There used to be a navy helicopter base here too, but they sold that.

If there were only two, is it possible that there was an air show going on in your area?
One year there was one here, and I had totally forgotten it was going to happen... two fighter jets screamed over our apartment complex, scared me and my sweeties to DEATH. We were sitting on the couch talking, and when we heard them coming, we just clung to eachother for dear life.

I didn't get to see it, but one of my friends had a helicopter land in her yard.
Turns out one of her neighbors was growing marijuana and they wanted to know if it was her's.
Now why they didn't just DRIVE to her house is beyond me.

Because driving would be a more efficient use of tax dollars, and we all know how the gov't likes to spend tax dollars...

I live not too far from the largest F-16 training base in the country, we have fighters and a lot of military helicopters going over us quite often.

We have fighters that come over Lake Thurmond, SC about 25 feet above the water....That can disturb your quiet afternoon at the lake. I have no idea where they come from, Maybe Hunter Army Air field in Savannah, GA or even Parris Island, SC...haven't got clue there...
But I have always loved airplanes, so I actually enjoy it.

Living between Ft. Bragg, Seymore Johnson AFB, and Cherry Point(Marines) we're always getting buzzed by military air craft. I can identify by sound whether it's a C-130, Blackhawk, Apache, Kiowa, F-16, Marine helicopters, etc. My son loves watching the aircraft. It gets really loud around here when the military is doing joint exercises.

They use helicopters to find marijuana. It's pretty easy from above to tell what's pot and what's not.
I live not too far from an artillery range where they practise blowing stuff up. Sometimes they're at it all day, sounds like a warzone off in the distance!
